An Algarve Garden 2024

Thank you for visiting @Philippa and hopefully gave you some good memories of France and Spain.

We moved here in 2001 (and owning and visiting since 1988) I never remember such hot Summers. Yes, you would get the odd day or two in the mid/high 30s, but never ongoing like this year. It has been drier than normal too. However, we may be having a return to normality this week.

 

It has been too hot to spend time in the garden, but we did some tidying and moving large pots around on the Raised Patio the other day.

Some of the Hibiscus blooms this past week. remember they are mostly one -day wonders ...

 

Those hibiscus are gorgeous.

 

Your orange one is my favourite @Victoria , but they are all lovely!

 

End of the month so we had Ben the Gardener came for Autumn tidy up and all looks bare. He took the Viburnum to near on ground level.

Therefore it made lots of space in the Sandgarden ...



The Bird of Paradise now has space ...


The parking area was cleaned of weeds ...


The Solanum was cut back ...

 

Of course I must end with a few Hibiscus the past weeks ....

 

That pruning has made a big difference @Victoria. Nice area for your Bird of Paradise to expand .

 

Nice to have a bit of a clear out from time to time @Victoria, I hadn't realised you had planted that BOP out.
You always said it was a dwarf variety, seems to be getting quite tall now.

 

It was planted in the ground in December 2007 and stayed this height until a few years ago and it got virtually no sun. Then when the Viburnum was cut back, then down it shot up and spread out. It is surprising to see it tall now.

 

Ok, I thought it was potted until recently, obviously I lost track of time.

 

Just noticed I had not done October so just a few things ...

First of the month we moved all the Adeniums into the Baffa for the Winter ...
Nursery ...

Big Five ...


Dwarf azaleas both reblooming ...



Pink Brugmansiia blooming for second time this year ...



Crinum Lily ...

 

Pandorea filling out again ...


Plectranthus 'Mona Lavender ...


Plumbago still blooming ...

Cy looking good as always ...


Purple Grass (can't remember which) first blooms ...


Tecomaria just starting to bloom ...


Yuccas blooming for forst time ...

 

And of course a few Hibiscus blooms for the month ...

They are taking a rest now but there are lots of buds.
