I have two cousins working on it :blue thumb:. We have great detail going back a couple of hundred years (on my father's side) and that involves many hundreds or family.

We're quite a close family and have a monthly Zoom with over 40 cousins around the world (gets a bit chaotic :rolleyespink:). The youngest of the senior generation of cousins is 70 and the oldest is 99 (about 30 of us) and we are building up an archive of family reminiscences from this generation. A second generation cousin is collating them all, in America. Zoom is quite handy as you could either be next door or thousands of miles away.

Two of our female ancestors were cats' meat sellers in the 1850's. They didn't sell cats' meat, they sold food for cats that was actually horse meat as London had about 300,000 horses working in London and those no longer fit to work (about 10% per year) were sent to the knackers yard. :rolleyespink:

This reminded me of something I have heard over the years and associate with the Lake District.
I found this: Yan Tan Tethera - Wikipedia
The number of variants is interesting the similarities more so.
I never heard of it when I was growing up in Lincolnshire, possibly more found in the Wolds which was more sheep country than our local fens. My mother never mentioned it and she'd spent time on farms in the Wolds.

Have just 5 mins then Rib Eye Steak Steakhouse Ovens Chips are in, as they take forever and sti-rfry veggies..
I just love these stories of others Ancestors and what a great lot your family are. Mine not so. except 2 out of 3 of my Children...long story..
I came across a new cousin for Husband in New Zealand and I receive emails from the wife who does all the researching and shares her info with me..She disappears though sometimes for months and out of the blue I will receive an email then we carry on with exchanging info for a while again...She has told me a lot of really treasured stories that link up well with my info.
Yes these days we are all near each other...

add on A 1st Cousin of my Husband contacted us via an Ancestry site a couple of months ago and have some good emails from her but they have recently stopped and I only have her email so a bit stumped.

Is it ok to say our surname or would that be unwise...do not think there is any skeletons in the cupboard but under oath I could not risk that...:help:

It's best not to give your surname. :noidea: You don't know who's lurking waiting for things like that. There are very few on here that do so. Best keep it to yourself :paladin:

All the regular members know my details because I open my garden for charity but, otherwise, I wouldn't do it. :)

made it easy to find out though....I need telling sometimes and will take notice which is unusual in a female:yikes:as long as it's not the pretty one...well he really was in the 60's...looked like he should have been in a Rock Band...I like to pretend he is the Boss but we know that is not a possibility:love30:

                    Thanks :)

Unfortunately we weren't allowed to open in 2020 because of Covid although we had spent months organising it .

On the up side :blue thumb: - people still ordered plants and were able to collect them (keeping very distanced) and, together with the sales and the kind donations people had made, the charity have just told us that the grand total received from us is £3,881.50 :hapydancsmil:

Sorry, no deliveries. :) You would have to come and collect and we'd be pleased to see you :blue thumb:

We usually have about 60ft of sales tables and numerous areas for restocking and sell about a thousand plants in a day - all propagated by Mrs Shiney :dbgrtmb:. I'm just the general dogsbody. :heehee:

                                Very interesting @DianneW and @shiney
As far as I know my dads side of the family always lived in Worcester. A few years ago I found out that my great grandmother changed her name from Jennings back to her maiden name Rouse. My mother's side she could have been Jewish related and a bit of Irish. Her maiden name was Smith and was brought up in Birmingham, could have been the black country because her sister had the accent.
I've been a bit fascinated about the name Rouse because in German it means out, I've thought that it wouldn't be from the UK.
