I began planning for the next season. There will be 3 flowerbeds based mainly on herbaceous annuals to set 'the main themes' and some perennials as 'focal points' or 'the backbone' in each area. Some are already in place, others have been ordered, and others still are to be transplanted in spring.
My first combination will comprise Hackonehloa macra 'Aureola', Nasturtium 'Milkmaid', Tagetes 'French Vanilla', Leucanthemum x superbum "Laspider", Veronica spicata 'Christa', and Stachys byzantina.

I collaged photos of them, just to see how they combine:

I also began to paint the combination, just for fun. Besides, as the garden is dormant now, painting seems like a rehearsal of the actual 'making of it'.

Here is a cropped glimpse at my first nasturtiums, the rest will follow soon:

That's the rest of it. The colours did not come true, especially the veronica. It's due to the camera, it won't render purple. :rolleyespink:

And here is the other combination:

And I painted some of it, but the rest of the plants will only appear in the garden. There was no space to clutter them all:

Glad you like it, Jenny and Java&Me.
It's hardly 'a big deal'. My childish painting attempts, I mean.
I am just rehearsing for the season, as I imagine that the garden is the actual 'canvas' where my paintings will materialise.
Let me list the plants in the second collage:
                          1. Rose 'Minerva' - I propagated it from cutting and it is already planted in the new border. I can't say if it will flower this summer.
                          2. Caryopteris 'Worcester Gold' (in the background). I have it and I must move it behind the rose. Its gilded foliage will definitely dominate the season. It flowers at the end of the summer until frost, so the combination is likely to be at its best in late August or early September if and when the rose is established to repeat its flowering.
                          3. Delphinium elatum "Excalibur Lilac Rose" - there will be several more delphiniums around, mostly blue. I don't know how actively they will flower in their first season (I've ordered some and they will arrive in March).
                          4. Echium 'Blue Bedder' - I received my seeds last Thursday. It's a bit early to start them, but the packet seems to contain something like 'a handful', which is very encouraging. I'd love to have a 'thicket' of them. :dbgrtmb:
                          5. Phlox paniculata 'Etoile de Paris' - also due to come in mid-March from a local trader.
                          6. Tanacetum haradjanii - I have no experience with this plant, I just loved the texture of its leaves.
                          7. I've grown the gaura for one season already, but it deserves a more prominent position. It seems to be a great plant and performs well throughout the season.
