Okay.........I think I'm there. Abutilon, otherwise known as the 'flowering maple'. The leaves are definitely right! :)

It certainly looks like the Malvaceae family, which of course includes Hibiscus, Arbutilon and Alcea.

I am inclined to say a Hibiscus of sorts. The problem is that there are over 250 species of Hibiscus and over 10,000 hybrids. It looks a bit similar to Hibiscus calyphyllus but not quite. How long do the flowers last for? Hibiscus flowers often last only about 2 days.

Hi Peter, the flower lasted just 1 day and the next ones are looking like they should open in the next day or two; a description I found for the 'Okra' said they flower for 1 day too??, but then as you say Hibiscus don't last long either :thumb:

I have just had a Google of Okra. The key seems to be in its size and the long seed pods. And I think Okra is more likely to be in a seed mix than a unusual Hibiscus species.

I have just bought a couple of Hibiscus (I don't know anything about them - but at 85p each you can't expect any more name). Its clear that they are not that fast growing, but Okra, as an annual, looks like it grows pretty quickly.

This is going to be a difficult one to pin down. I went through my plant
A to Z yesterday and Abutilon was the nearest I could get to it. I don't think Hibiscus have 'maple' shaped leaves. Well my one doesn't anyway! :)

    Maybe this helps .
Abelmoschus manihot. is a flowering plant in the mallow family Malvaceae. It was formerly considered a species of Hibiscus, but is now classified in the genus Abelmoschus. The plant is also known as the Sunset Muskmallow, Sunset Hibiscus, or Hibiscus Manihot.

I can never forget this name because I actually grew some Abelmoschus manihot myself in pots and they actually produced a splendid flower, albeit short lasting.

I had a look a the following link and everything seems right apart from the leaf, mine are fuller leaves than those in the pics on this webpage????, can the leaves vary with this plant depending on its origin???

      Hi Bilbo
I must admit when I grow some a couple of years ago they were a lot smaller than I had thought and hoped, the leaves on mine were small ..
Hence I never grew again ..

The flower looks spot on; the obvious variant in this plant is the shape and colour of its leaves and the size in general, potentially they can grow huge, 8ft+ and flowers up to 6", mine is about 3ft and flowers that are about 3", still a lovely plant though :thumb: and yours looks stunning too Marley
