Ah sorry to hear of your loss.I am a receptionist at a vets and it is always sad when someone has to make that decision. I've been there myself with my lovely pets so share your loss.Oscar is a very handsome fellow.

Thank you for your kind comments.

I have decided to get another cat. I can't bear only having one besides which I have a feeling that TomTom was lonely while I was at work today. In fact, the cat sanctuary says they have several pairs they want homed together, so I might even get two! Planning for the future, don't you know - after all, Tom is almost 17 so I may not have him very much longer! I shall be visiting them next Friday.

I find I'm still crying over Oscar. Has anyone else spent days like this? I've never cried so much over a cat. I miss him so much.

Yes, we were very upset for quite some time. Just the thought of him brought tears to our eyes. :cat-kittyandsmiley: :cry3:

so sorry to hear about Oscar, such a hard decision to have to make but one that's so often the kindest. my heart goes out to you.

yes, i cried non-stop when our little dog Polo had to be PTS last June at the age of 15 and tbh i still have a good cry over him from time to time, he was my baby and i loved...still love...will always love him dearly. i've a lump in my throat now just cos i've mentioned him & his passing in the same breath. some hurts just take longer to mend.

Well, I got Oscar's ashes from the pet crem and they are sitting on a shelf with the ashes of three of my previous cats and there's room in the box for TomTom when his time comes! But TomTom is going to get a surprise tomorrow as I am going to the rescue centre to get him a little girlfriend! In fact, I might even get two!

Sorry to hear about Oscar Jo, but I feel you did the kindest thing, there is no need to keep letting animals suffer.

Tomtom will be glad of some company I guess ...... Go on, get a pair ;)

My condolences, daisees. I wonder whether, being a white cat, Oscar had skin cancer? Whatever the problem was you did the brave and sensible thing. And there'll be two very lucky cats settling in to their new home soon:)

No, thankfully nothing like that. He had an auto-immne disease that made his ears meg itchy.

I thought you all might like to see my new little girl. She's called Tammy, is about 8 years old and her previous owner died. She'd been in the rescue centre for four months so was more than ready for a new home. I was rather upset when I got her home though, thinking of Oscar, and immediately emailed the centre saying it was too soon and I shouldn't have acted so hastily! They didn't say much just bring her back tomorrow. But I ended up sleeping on the settee to keep harmony between her and TomTom and this morning, I found she'd discovered the cat shelf where Oscar used to sleep. I think her pose says it all, don't you? It says "Like it here - am going nowhere"! So she's staying!

Had a similar decision to make last week Boris my 10 year old Shih Tzu went downhill so fast prostate cancer in a few weeks you could see his spine through his very thin coat his brother was always very close. I made the appointment our Vet will call and put them to sleep at home, Husband in the meantime dug a big hole in the front garden, all over in seconds. I have bred and shown This breed for 30 years and it never gets any easier, but at the end of the day you owe them, he was my favourite which was worse, his brother has settled but they were inseparable. I do feel for your loss Daisee pets do become a part of you. I have planted a group of Fox Tailed Lilys over him.
