Ants in greenhouse

    Is that individual ants or the queen.
    Not that I know the answer. :biggrin:

    The little black things that swarm about and try to get up your trouser legs!

      I'm not well up on the subject but I think they live in a similar way to bees, one Queen and all those little workers, the ones that you mostly see.
      The workers probably mostly die off at the end of the season just leaving enough to keep the colony going.
      The winged ones are doing basically what bees do when they swarm and going off to start new colonies.

        I have 2 large urns with brush trees in both with bedding plants around the edges. The ants have definitely buckled down making it their home. When the top soil is disturb I can see white little grubs wriggling about. (Shudder)
