My bro says 1200 at the very most just for the boiler, £1300 including the flue (all including a 15% mark up by the plumber for supplying it annd no labour for fitting it). Get another quote from someone else first.

What are they quoting for the repairs @Linz? If you can keep that one going for even another year or two without spending the earth on it, it might be worth doing if only to give you some time to save up for a new one?

If you do go for new, please don't do Baxi (or Potterton) - utter garbage in my experience, with control boards frequently failing. The advice not to go for a cheap boiler is also sound advice - any money saved will quickly be lost in repairs.

I asked how much for today and they said "nothing, pay when the parts come" so no idea.. Also, I asked for a service (years over due) and to move the tap (It's under the counter and have to move the dishwasher out to fill the pressure bar up). These things need doing so I'm not too bothered about getting quotes for this immediate job as these are the only plumbers I know and trust.

I'm going to save for a new boiler..mainly as I'm broke as a joke right now with spending out on a garden wall, sofas, 2 (stupid) cars and xmas coming up :(
I'll be after a vaillan, think I'm set on it.

I feel your pain @Linz - in the past year, I have had to fit four tyres to the car, front brake pads last weekend, MOT due next week, it has a mysterious knocking noise at low speeds from the rear (but we can find nothing amiss), and its French DNA is beginning to show with electrical gremlins.......

Indoors, I have had to replace the vacuum cleaner, the fridge, the oven, the shower, two air conditioners, replace the water tank on the carpet shampooer, and replace the kitchen mixer tap - - oh, and the microwave's display is now so dim it can barely be seen, so I will need to get my screwdrivers out before too long for that too!

Never rains, but it chuffin' well pours :gaah:

Oh, life eh! That's a bummer about the car, not the ball joint or a bearing gone on the back? Hope its nothing major for you and just an advisory so you can sort before the next MOT? We had a new fridge and hoover too..school trips, uniforms.. the list of things to replace or pay for never fails to amaze!

I am convinced it is the exhaust tapping on something as the body flexes at low speed, but I cannot find the point of contact anywhere; it has only done 24,000 miles so I am a bit disappointed that it has started to develop these niggles. The paintwork is pretty poor too if truth be told - shame, because in so many other ways it is a great car; sadly, on the basis of this experience, I doubt I will have another, as the competition has moved on considerably whereas Nissan have tried to make do with a mere facelift.

Oh that is a shame FC. What is it a Juke? Sounds fairly new too, having only done so many miles. I know I will never have another Astra again, as much as I bitched about my peugeot 207, I've come to realize I actually loved that car even though I had so much trouble with it, it drove like a dream compared! :(
