Mine isn't lagging, well, not more than usual, always a little slow for me for some reason.

But I was on yesterday early afternoon and suddenly I think the site crashed and I got a screen with just the top banner and the rest blank saying something like 'sorry but we are updating ... check again later.' After a few minutes it was back up again. I wonder if the crash has reset some things and has auto logged people out.

Something to try folks. This has worked for me in the past. Sometimes when the site has been updated it changes the link between the server and the site and is recognised on old data not new. If you enter GC via your 'Favourites', log out of GC, delete it from your 'Favourites' and then set it up again from the internet. Sorry, I can't explain it very well.

I think you explained it just fine @Sheal - and this sort of relates back to my earlier comments about DNS - its not impossible for the old data to be sending the traffic in the wrong direction only to be redirected, causing a delay.

The other side of this is that when you visit a website, many of the images (buttons, smilies, avatars etc etc) are saved into your browsers cache (temporary memory) - which is essentially to allow pages to load faster as it uses the images in the cache instead of downloading them each time; the trouble creeps in when the cache gets that bit more full, it takes longer to search for the image, and again causes a lag - hence my suggestion to use CCleaner to clear the cache out and force the PC to rebuild its library of images from scratch

Thanks @fat controller I've just learnt something new. :dbgrtmb: Now I know exactly what a cache does. :)

That depends very much on the phone and its OS - is it Android, Apple or Windows?

OK - sounds like a Nokia Lumia, the instructions are:

          • On Start, swipe across and tap Internet Explorer.
          • Press the menu button (3 dots) at the bottom and tap settings.
          • Tap delete history to clear all settings.

My smartphone is a Nokia Lumia with Win 8 - as I've said before it is working OK. @Anthony Rogers how are you accessing the forum on your phone? I use Windows Explorer as Tapatalk isn't available it says.

The ISP/service provider shouldn't make much difference assuming you are connecting through your home Wi-Fi.

Just to say that I posted on another thread (re. long running script) glitches here.

Fat controller asked me to check if the prolonged lagging occurred in another browser. It did. A computer forum then advised me that this was then related to the site and not my computer. I have passed this info onto fat controller who is contacting webmaster.

(Incidentally, I often got a pop up saying "error" and relating it to javascript console. Having accessed troubleshooting on my browser, for trouble on one site they recommended installing yesscript add-on which I did. I was very disappointed to find that it made absolutely no difference whatsoever).
