I remember going to school in Pea-Soupers with a scarf round my mouth. Even in the early seventies , I was on night shift driving to work . The fog was so thick probably about 5 yards visibility. I got so disoriented I had to get out of the car to get my bearings !
Where I live now ,Shevington , the M6 passes through a cutting . The fog gathered badly around this area in the 1960's causing some terrible accidents and multiple deaths ,so bad it was known as death valley. Luckily the fog/mist we get now is never really as bad or even that frequent.

I can remember a real bad "smog" about 1962, we were sent home from school.Remember the silence, as the "smog" muffled the noise and you could not hear any traffic coming.
I also lived in the "Black Country" .The town I lived in Darlaston, had lots of foundries making nuts and bolts, it was painful to pass close by with all the hammers shaking the ground and tremendous noise.
