Shingles is when the virus for some reason flares up after a prior infection of chicken pox.

Like Daisees mentioned, I have found nowhere any real reason as to why it flares up again, but some think it is an overall weakening of the bodys defence sytem-like cold sores.

It can occur in children and adults at any time after a chicken pox infection, although it seems to be more frequently seen in the older section-often it can leave you in pain for weeks-sometimes months and worst of all, in a few cases the pain can last for years.

Seems strange, perhaps to come back so soon.
I mean most people I know who have had shingles are above 40.

Hi lolli- just spent 10 minutes trying to explain how I suffer from it, albeit not from such an early age, only to lose the whole message again!

So will just say - yes i think it's brought on by stress, I understand that you have to have had chicken pox to get it and that I think it's the body's way of saying 'I'm stressed'. Shame for your daughter to have it so early. Take comfort though that you can cope with it. I'm going to try some of the remedies on here.

    Hope it's looking better.

    cheers

Thanks everyone, she wants to try to go back to school tomorrow, she says she is feeling better.

However she is now scarred on her back. They are quite bad too, deep and wide-like potholes in her skin.

Hope she is ok now. I had shingles a few years back and because it was not diagnosed, I did not get the treatment. It has destroyed a nerve in my back and so the muscles which that nerve controlled no longer work. The muscles are ones which help keep the lower vertebrae in place so my spinal cord is being pinched by the vertebrae causing terrible pain, especially down the sciatic nerve. The shingles was not diagnosed because I had no rash with it. I have had it since in a different place, but with a rash and given the proper treatment within the 48 hours needed for it to work and that has left no after effects.
I am having an attack of the shingles type pain at the moment and it is very uncomfortable too.
Hopefully your daughter will have no more trouble with hers, it is a horrible thing.
