    Daisees,
did you tinnitus just suddenly start?
If that is the case, I wonder if it is just ear infection and will settle down.
:)I sincerely hope so as I don't want to share my cicadas since I've had them in my head for a long time now and I quite like them.

Mine started suddenly, immediately after coming out of our local cinema 5 years ago, the decibel level was extremely high (to ehance the cinema experience so they say) and obviously affected me so I have never been to a cinema since. It is a high pitched 'singing' noise which I guess I am stuck with permanently, it is tolerable but annoying usually when everything is quiet but strangely noticable when driving.

Strong, Mine seems to be very similar. I get the driving bit as well and think it is to do with all the background electrical sounds in the car - fan, A/C etc

I`ve had it for as long as I can remember, so have learned to live with it. I did ask the doctor about it once, he just laughed and said there was nothing he could do.:skp:

I know that nothing can be done about tinnitus but it is still quite annoying when you fancy a quiet evening and you have a chorus in your head that will not shut up.

I've just found your thread Daisees and have read the posts with interest. I've had tinnitus for a long time and put it down to too much loud music in my youth. Playing guitar in a rock band probably didn't help. I recently had tests and the specialist said the noise is possibly due to something called Cochlea echo, where the ear sends out sound waves of its own. He also said there is no cure.
It doesn't bother me unduly although the high pitched whistle is very loud, especially in the mornings. When I meditate, I'm aware of it at first but it soon fades into the background.
The doctor also said that Ginko Biloba may help, although I've no evidence for that. I'm glad the chiropractor helped. Is it still okay? I'm intrigued to know what did he did.

My wife has had tinnitus for a few years now, and in the early part she found it very difficult concentrating.
Her doctor said there was no cure and she will have to live with it, I think now some days are better than others, does not complain about it though

Curiously I just caught something about it on the TV tonight. They were showing a device like a small radio that would give off various, selectable, types of sound. There was white noise, sound of birds, the sound of waves and others that I didn't catch as I wasn't really looking at it.

The idea was that, say, the sound of waves would a) drown out/mask the tinnitus, and b) that it relaxed you and they said the tinnitus is reduced when you are relaxed. I presume this was an aid to sleeping.

Well, Gingko Biloba is suggested in the Herbalist books. I use it for Raynauds Disorder, it seems to have kept the Tinnitus to comfortable proportions as well. Good luck!

Yes, i saw that, Peter. I was a piece about tinnitus and the Tinnitus support group. They are getting a big promotion going to raise awareness.

Funny, cus I want to forget mine!

The quiet after my chiroprator visit was very temporary. It's been back pretty much constant since. I was seen at the audio clinic and was told my hearing test showed 'slight' hearing loss in the right ear which could account for it (well ... sorry guys - but the T is in my left ear!). They didn't agree with my GP's findings and declared my ears totally normal and healthy. So I'm booked in for a date with the audiology counsellor! *sigh* But she also put me in for a new white noise generator with a higher pitch. Other than that, nothing has changed except I've got used to it and if I get focussed on something, I no longer notice it much.

Suppose one can get used to anything in time!

Poor you Daisees! :euw:. I had a similar experience. Despite the tinnitus I was told I had very good hearing. I must say that I still wake at the slightest noise so I suppose it's good. Also, if I go away I always use earplugs to blot out any unusual sounds. Still as you say, focussing on something else takes your attention away from it. Just don't let it get you down.
And as I know you like cats, here's a picture of two we had to make you smile.
