Not keen on the chemicals myself anymore, used to use miracle grow, but no more, I like the organic chicken poo either dug in or foliar myself.

Is anyone sure foliar feeding actually works?:D

I use foliar feeding for plants like bromeliads but for general feeding of normal everyday plants its always seemed like a load of old tosh to me.

If it does work it can only be short term, as the absorption through the leaves can only be for a very short time, and if you get the initial soil preparation right, with a slow realease fertilizer, I cant see the need.

As for Tomorite, I seem to remember it says keep it off the leaves, but I might be wrong.

Just another garden centre con as far as I'm concerned, although its not quite so openly advised these days as presumably most are not cleared by the EC for spraying on the leaves of plants.

I'm sure someone can put me right.:)

I'm pretty certain foliar feeding works pete - and you are right it certainly is short term - gives the plants a quick boost. I just give my tomatoes and potatoes a weak mixture from the watering can, maybe once a week when they are in full growth - I don't bother using a sprayer.

Dai, I must admit i do often double the dose particualry for cucumbers and tomatoes!!

Pete, im not sure as a general feed although for hanging baskets, planters and glass crops I think it does make a very tangible differance.

So are we saying that the chicken pellets are good as a foliar feed?

I use it on the roots but not all over the leaves.

The reason why I will try it first is two-fold, first reason, I have some already and won't have to go to any further expense, and secondly, if it doesn't burn the leaves then it is, for my purposes, okay to at least have a go at.

I will keep the thread updated with when I feed and after a few more weeks any results-good or bad.

 I find that once it has settled out it makes an excellent foliar feed & I haven't noticed it leaves any visible sign afterwards.. It only smells a little bit until it has dried I find . Better than chemicals any day I feel... We that is my opinion anyway...:D

Oddly I don't mind the smell, it isn't that noxious-mind you, it's only fresh yet, maybe give it a week or two lol..
