Why is pollination a problem if youve had loads of apples the previous year ?

Hi Azadaman, Alas I had to remove a second tree which was right next to it, they both had tons of apples and I assume pollinated each other, non of my neighbours have trees so I just hope there are others close enough which will do the job.

    Ah, I see.
We have got a lone apple tree in the garden and dont know of any others around but we get apples every year.
Mind you we have got a pear tree next to it.

There are varieties of apple which are self-fertile, some that need 1 other, and some that need 2. The pollinators have to flower at the same time, obviously.
