    @Drahcir
    Thank you but I am aware of these and others.
    Original meaning of hacks is to chop with a sharp implement in an unskilled, uncontrolled manner. As in whose hacked your hair, or older "we hacked through the enemies shieldwall".
    Also used in horse riding circles.
    Application to computers and programming is relatively recent, probably within my lifetime.

      Absolutely. 60s, increasing 70s. Apparently applied to some people writing in FORTRAN, pffft. Should have been using an assembler. I am aware of the various meanings of "hack".

        The real question isn't can bumble bees sense electric fields the original paper Synthetic fertilizers alter floral biophysical cues and bumblebee foraging behavior assumes that bees can sense electric fields, so the question is how do they sense electric fields.
        See Plants and pollinators use electric fields to find each other for an overview for more details see https://www.pnas.org/doi/epdf/10.1073/pnas.1601624113 and Electric field detection as floral cue in hoverfly pollination | Scientific Reports all three are worth a careful read and the experimental work is impressive.

        Fortran was the most ridiculous language ever devised, although python is having a good go at taking that title.

        Within my lifetime then. The first programmers I met used to programme in machine code and later switched to assembler followed by C++.
