Ve haf vays of improving your grass! It arrived this afternoon, and is a model of German efficiency when it comes to putting it together. I haven't used it yet, but probably will tomorrow, and of course will come back armed with pics if I can.... I now need to decide what height I run it at for its first run....
Be very interested to see the pictures if you have time to take some.. I really want to get the confidence to do my lawn !! Thanks !!
I will make a point of taking some then, and hopefully it won't put you off. I am well aware that I am never going to have a lawn like a bowling green, but I do want to make it look half decent. At the moment, it feels rock solid underfoot, so it is clearly badly compacted; over the past couple of years, I have faffed around with weed and feed, poking holes in it with a fork, and even trying a manual scarifier thing - it was a pain in the bum because it choked up every few minutes and was way too much like hard work... This year, I have decided I need to bite the bullet, and really make the lawn into something decent - my health isn't getting any better, so I am wanting to put the building blocks in now just in case I need to go to a lower maintenance plan in the future - in the meantime, it will hopefully give me a good base to work on to have a garden that looks worthy of the hours that go into it...
That looks like the same model as the one I bought at lidl many years ago. Lidl one has 3 year warranty and cheaper esp with one of those 5 vouchers that crop up. I use mine twice a year but never used the blade option just the tynes. Ive lost half of my tines now and cant find a replacement to fix them so id check on spare parts supply before you buy your chosen machine. I have to rake my moss up and then go over it to suck up the remaining bits with the rideon mower.
Two year guarantee with mine, and spares seem to be readily available - £20 for a new set of tines - if yours is the same, would you get some here to fit yours @WeeTam
Thanks for that but mine seemslightly different so no go, damn. Might have to usetheblades next time. btw iron sulphate works a treat for me.Dead moss, cheap, giving a lush lawn this year.
@Charlie996 - I am going to hold off using it until the weekend at the earliest, as I have patches of seed and compost all over the lawn that I am trying to coax into life, and I don't want to destroy my chances. I promise I will post back pics when I do though
This post on scarifying has some good info from Fa1con , at post number 7. Its the way I prepared my lawns this year http://gardenerscorner.co.uk/forum/threads/scarifying-lawns.93229/
