are these edible

    The maggots hide inside the brambles. You look really close, and all looks fine. You give them a rinse if you want. Still fine. Then you stick them in a bucket of water and leave them for an hour. When you come back the surface of the water is teeming with maggots, small flies and the occasional spider that have all drowned and floated up to the top.

      Lovely thanks for that clueless mini beasts lurking in my foraging fayre have never done me any harm but I won't give them to little chimney.

      Never done me any harm either, and I let the lad eat straight off the bush too. The only rule when out and about is that any wild fruit next to a path is off limits if its less then knee high (cos dogs are likely to have wee'ed on those ones).

        There's a cherry tree full of small black cherries not far from me on a walk I take in public land I suppose it has grown from a dropped stone, never seen them growing wild and edible before and they are actually sweet ish

        I gathered a load of those the other day and scoffed them happily ... am trying not to think about what might have been lurking in those juicy black fruit
