Are you having problems joining Gardeners Corner?

Over recent weeks, we have seen a spike in attempts by persons trying to join Gardener’s Corner with the sole intention of spamming our boards, or advertising without permission or verification.

As all Gardener’s Corner members are aware, we take our responsibilities to ensure that our members can enjoy being part of the Gardener’s Corner community without having to worry about their security, or without having to put up with unwanted spam; part of these responsibilities mean that the Admin Team have to manually approve all new user accounts, or reject them in the case of those that we believe are joining for nefarious reasons.

Whilst we use all the tools at our disposal, and draw on our collective experience to help us make the right decision, we are also human and occasionally someone will find that their request to join has been rejected in error. Clearly, we have no desire to prevent any genuine person from joining our friendly community, so if you or someone you know has had their attempt to join rejected, please send us an email and we will happily reconsider our initial decision.

To help us reconsider the decision, we need to know the following:

- The username that was trying to be created

- The email address relating to the account that was trying to be created

- If you are using a proxy server, particularly one located in a country different to where you are, please let us know what country you are in and what country your proxy server is in, and whether you will be using the same proxy server all the time.

- Anything else you think we need to know.

We will leave this thread open for a while, to allow anyone who is already a member to be able to let us know of anyone having problems joining.

Sadly, our software doesn't allow the first ten posts to go into a moderation queue, but we do have the ability to rapidly ban and remove all posts. All new users are subject to IP blacklist checks, and at the same time geographical information can also give us some clues - - however, proxy servers as you are no doubt aware, can throw the odd curve ball.

As far as I know, we haven't missed any new members yet, but we have no intention of doing so - the entire Admin team here strongly believe in communicating with everyone as much as possible, not least as we are members ourselves.

 

Our Mods do a very good job of stomping on the baddies Quite often, when I report something that seems dodgy they are already on it.
