I still think you should go for several plants in each space to prolong the flowering season Yellow - Loosestrife and Achillea Red - Valerian Rubra and Monarda, then Lobelia Cardinalis for later White - Leucanthemum and Campanula Alba Can't think of Purple and Blue yet, as I've had a couple of pints, but give me some time...
Vicky, if you`ve ever done any art training, you will know that black and white are NOT colours, they are shades. Also, if you`ve done any training in art you will know that if you dilute blue with yellow, you will eventually, get down to white. Just as if you improve red with blue you will end up with black.:thmb:
Hi Victoria. Regarding Colours ,I was a Laboratory Colourist in the Plastics Industry for 34 years and white is most certainly a colour, as is Black. white is not just white and black is not just black .when an order came in from the car industry, telephone company, electrolux, lego, just to mention a few we were given the colour the customer wanted ,via a sample swatch . i in turn had to place the sample into a spectrophotometer and Decipher what pigments would be required to bring the requested colour (ON SHADE).to the customers specifications . a lot of people do not know the colour Black can have additions of yellow, blue, red ,added to give the customers required colour. as the same with white. i have had make ups white Base added red. white base added yellow and red. white base added yellow ,red, and blue!!. we had an order for 15 years from the G.P.O. for black plastic for telephones ,just a straight Black no colour addition then we had the complete change, black was not black unless it had a hint of red!!. our company started off with a basic 9 colours and finished up with thousands.!!!! just a little menu we had initially (1) natural (2) white (3)grey (4)black (5)blue (6) red (7)yellow (8) brown (9) green music
It's a garden... It appears that we're determining the finer detail of a nuclear stockpile agreement. Shall we agree to disagree as much as this colourful tangental discussion on whiter shades of pale go.. Do we think staggering flowering plants are ideal? I like the idea of one splodge of colour, one plant. The dalhias certainly have the brilliance of colour but not the prolonged life of an evergreen. Any more colourful suggestions.. While refraining from colourful insults.. (how many puns in one post...lol) Scott
Hey, Scott, you are new to this forum ... look at the number of my posts ... I am not .... :lollol: Discussion and debate is de rigor here ... most of us have known each other a long time and we agree to disagree ... that's just us ... there's no animosity. just always giving our own views and opinions. Dai ... I still think you're wrong. I've had architectual training but no art training ... I just sell paintings now having only started three years ago ... :hehe: Music, thank you for your wonderful input into colours. :luv: Scott, we still all want to see photos please .... :ntwrth:
The RHS handbook on herbaceous perennials divides them into colours, so I'll take a look through it tomorrow morning to look for purples and blues.
How about these? White: Hosta 'White Feather', Cerastium tomentosum, Sedum spurium 'Tricolor' Red: Sedum album 'Red Carpet', 'Coral Carpet' Yellow: Carex elata 'Golden Bowles', Hebe x franciscana 'Variegata' (never dared test it for winter) Purple: Ophiopogon plansicarpus 'Nigrescens', Ajuga reptans, Sedum 'Purple Emperor' Blue (silvery blue): Leymus arenarius, Helictotrichon sempervirens, Festuca 'Elijah Blue' Hope it gave you some more ideas... It is also possible that you put in some perennials for summer as well to accentuate these colours with some lovely and vibrant petals - if you have a little more space.
