    Love that tip joolz.

Mine eats little and often. At 7 she has ceral then fruit at 10 then hot dinner at midday then snack at 3 crackers or something then a sandwich for tea at 5 after which she is bathed and I read a million stories _ lol :)

Can you ask your ma and pa what you were like at that age? We tend to forget that we were young and manipulative once. Once he gets charging around the playground expending loads of energy he'll proably come home ravenous.
Bless you CL1, you're just a caring parent and he's a very fortunate little chap.
        Don't worry - be happy,
        Jenny

No, but I suspect therein lies half the problem. My mam loves him to bits (a good thing of course), but a few times I've caught her feeding him like a baby, holding the spoon/fork for him, and I've gone ballistic, because he's me and missus teaching him to be a 'big lad' and my mam undermines that when she comes round. Not so much now because she's got the message I think, but recent enough for the lad to have got used to the idea.

His favourite treat is biscuits, especially chocolate ones.

We haven't got a reward chart, maybe that's a good idea.

I'm told that I would have eaten anything that was put in front of me, but I don't think that's true.

RE supper: build it in to his routine rather than resorting to it when he is already in bed. If he knows he will be given whatever mum and dad are having spread over 5 or six meals it takes the pressure off everyone. Interestingly littlecrgs nursery does this too

My son went through the same thing clueless although he is a bit younger and we found that letting him take a toy to the table to play with whilst eating made a massive difference. Not ideal as I didn't really want him to be playing whilst eating, but after a few minutes he seemed to forget about the toy and be more interested in eating.

We are only just getting out of that stage really (our daughter is 9 now, and still isn't great when it comes to certain foods) - the only advice I can offer is to not make it into a battle as that will only make it worse.

We tried all sorts, but in the end I completely lost patience and simplified the whole thing - food would be put down and if it was eaten, great; if not, fine; but that was it - no extras, no treats, no snacks, no fizzy drinks, no discussion. If the dinner that was put down was (is) eaten (to an acceptable level) then snacks/treats are available and allowed (within reason of course).

I even went as far as speaking (off the record) with our GP about it in the early days, and the advice he gave was very simple - if a child is all that hungry and there is food available, they will eat it; try and force them to eat what they don't want to and you are going to set up an endless battle.

get him to help with (your guidance )draw up a meal plan ( PICTURES HELP) then get involved in the shopping and prep of it..... daily ask him what it is they are having from HIS plan ( the idea is that you only have his nuggets no more than twice in a week) if he suggest things that he has already had just calmly SAY OH no we have had that oh what what else can we have .... he thinks he is in charge pick items that some time he can create himself ( make a face on a pizza /omelette ) then agree well in advance any rewards that will be given, i would hold off giving to many sweet treats though as it would end up...... one carrot one chocolate biccie

plan one fun night NO CUTLERY NEEDED FOR anything .... be prepared to get messy as you are going to do it too !!!!!!

THEN THE HARD BIT get all adults to agree to the Plan agree in advance how much you actually want him to ate ... is it all ... is it the healthy stuff ..... is it half ?

if you find they only ate the junkie time food first then start by giving one nugget 2 chips/ pasta and 5 peas .... you get the idea ..... then refill as he clears it all if he asks for more tell him you have to eat the others first

I agree with the majority that you should offer food and if he doesn't eat it then no afters but no big fuss either. The best discipline/threat I found was a toy sin bin where a toy was put on a high shelf and stayed there until the next Saturday. The more severe the offence the more favourite the toy. And Never make a threat you aren't prepared to carry through otherwise he will play you like a fish on a line. It does get easier honest

I've got to agree with Pootle - if there is any threat of a sanction, follow it through or you will only make a rod for your own back.

I mainly agree with Kaz too - although, I would leave the cutlery issue to one side completely for a while; if he is eating, with or without cutlery, its a start - you can then add to that the habit of using tools to make eating easier.

yep agree Fc like i said you really have to decide what your Battle is going to be :dbgrtmb:

say what you mean, mean what you say and if you threaten no sweets then it is no sweets oh and DRINKS no drink for an hour before dinner. if a drink is usually given at meals dont give it until half way through and then only give water ( he may as well get used to that before school
