    Had a look on Seagraves web site, they have some 24" ones for £44 plus p&p.

      My two smaller tree ferns kept their fronds in good condition over last winter, even with the new fronds thrown up in the spring they still looked OK. I think the longer you can leave them the better, they are building up the plant's reserves.

      My 7 foot tree fern is more exposed to the elements and the weight of snow has snapped off the fronds over-winter. One of two also got damaged in that storm a couple of weeks ago so I will trim off the broken ones and use them to pack/protect the crown.

        Dicksonia antarctica will overwinter itself... just shove some fleece in the crown to prevent frost getting in in winter. Here though usually, the fronds don't even die back so it's hard to say with regard to Stockport.

          How long does it take for dicksonia's to grow roots.
          Mines been in a pot for 2 months and nothing

              Would you wait for it to root in a pot or plant straight out in the ground?

                I would plant it out in May - in case we have frosts. many people plant them out when they arrive - often Feb / March time, after Seagrave get their shipment :) and then just fleece them against the cold. I stood mine in a water butt and hosed it down every day to make sure it was properly rehydrated, and planted it out in May I think - the fronds had started appearing by then, and it was getting unwieldy to look after them (they were 6-footers)

                    If I remember I'll have a feel of mine at the weekend, I seem to recall you can find them a few inches down at this time of the season, but they won't become visible till April/May. I had some late ones appear in August last year.

                    That little sprout looks like a weed seedling by the way @mowgley

                      Still early for growth as JWK has said.

                        mine have kept all the fronds on this year so far, but getting a bit fed up of wrapping them up when I think frost is on the way , but doesn't take long to do.
