I'm fine this evening thanks Harry. I wouldn't chance my luck on any others but I know a field mushroom,

That's like me, Jenny. There are a few I know for sure: field mushroom, horse mushroom, puffball(!) and St George's mushroom. The rest I just feast on with my eyes....

The Fairy Rings yes, eaten them many times, very poplier in France.

Some of the Coprinus are edible, but I avoid them as they can give you a bad reaction if you drink with them, I know, I tried it to see what happened, bit like an asthma attack with a red face.

 Great minds, I was going to call it Funny Hungus too :snork:

Some books say you can, but i've read that there are possibly poisonous sub species. Not checked that out recently so might try to follow that up.

                        ...

Our book says "young ones are edible when cooked though may cause stomach upsets in some people". Thinking we'd take revenge on it for killing one of our apple trees, we cooked and ate a large clump of it. Big mistake!! Mr H and I apparently both qualify as "some people" as we then spent the next 24 hours in or in close proximity to the toilet:eeew:

They didn't even taste particularly wonderful:sad:

                          Oh dear

Sorry to hear that. Best give them to someone you don't like then.

It was a lovely crisp morning today, just 5 degrees at dawn, but it soon warmed up a bit and with blue skies above, myself, my wife and our 2 sons went for a walk along the local canal to collect some conkers and enjoy a stroll in the autumn air. You can't beat the dewy, musty mornings of autumn with leaves gently falling from the trees, a time of transition as one season turns into another :)

Anyways we managed to collect a decent amount of conkers and the boys were more than happy, when we got home our eldest said "What are we going to do with all them Daddy?", well after a moment of inspiration :ideaIPB: I came up with two 'conker' men and a 'conker' hoop/wreath

Here are some photos of today's exploits with the conkers :)
