You could also add a small bog garden to the pond if you wanted to. By building a dry wall of bricks across an area of the pond from one side to the other and then back filling between the brick wall and the bank with ordinary garden soil. The pond will seep/leak through the gaps between the bricks and keep the soil moist making a natural bog garden which you can plant to your heart's content, and the bonus is that the plants in the bog garden actually take out the unwanted nutrients out the of water helping to keep the water clear.:hapydancsmil::snork:

You should have dunked his head in the pond three times and only brought it up twice!!:heehee:

I dont have any marginal plants in my pond these days as I find I dont have enough space for them.
My pond is not very large, I find to keep the water clear you really need plants that grow without soil, ie things like you water hyacinth but hardier ones work better.
Elodea soaking up the nutrients, the odd water soldier etc., along with waterlilly to shade the water from sunlight.
If I had more room, I'd use more plants but unless you have a fairly big pond, I'd not bother with marginals.
Slightly larger than mine, but only by a foot or so.:)

Really? :dunno: But, in which direction, Pete (Our Mandy, aye, is quite particular in this regard) this could make all the difference ;) )

All I want to know is: what the flub am I supposed to do with me water hyacinths?
Size has never been an issue with me :heehee: (unless, and UNTIL, I am compared to a garden GNOME! - cheeky Blighter, that one!:sick0026: )

I know some members, "M", put their Water Hyacyinths in a fish tank [not occupied by fish:doh:] and overwinter them indoors.:snork: I don't have Water Hyacinths in my pond as they're classed as tender and I rather have "Water Soldiers" that are hardy and sink to the bottom during the Winter and rise up to the surface in Spring.:dunno::snork:
