Okay, y'all - I have asked Nathan to put this as a sticky somewhere but since you all seem so in need.........!

Remember - not only size/pixels/format(jpeg is a must) but file size is important too.

    The instructions are as follows:

To place your picture in Photobucket:
    1. put your picture in "My Pictures" on your pc, making sure before you save it that the size is no bigger that 100kb or about 6" x 6" and also saved in jpg file type
    2. go to www.photobucket.com
    3. register yourself if not already a member
    4. click on "browse" and find your picture in the pop-up window
    5. click on your picture once, then on open, the pop-up window will disapper and a link will have been placed in the box beside 'browse'
    6. click on "submit"
    7. when the picture is downloaded, the screen will temporarily go blank then PB will come back again with your picture on file
    8. double click on the picture which will bring its actual size in another screen, this is to make sure that it is a reasonable size as described above. It shouldn't be bigger than your monitor screen overall (assuming, of course, that you don't have a 17" monitor!!!)
    9. if the pic's bigger than this, click on your 'back' button to return to the first page then click on "edit"
    10. in the new screen, choose a size to reduce it to. (A little mental arithmetic required here, I'm afraid!) It will automatically return you to the first page when completed

To place your picture on Gardeners Corner
    11. open a second Internet Explorer window so you can toggle between the two
    12. open up Gardeners Corner and the thread where you want to post your picture
    13. go back to the PB window. Under the picture you will see three boxes - URL, IMG and TAG
    14. left click once on the IMG box, it should turn blue (be selected)
    15. now place the cursor on the blue area and right click on it
    16. from the menu that pops up, left click on "copy"
    17. go back to GC window and posting box, ensure the cursor is in the box, then right click and choose "paste"
    18. a lot of unreadable text will be placed in the box which should start [IMG]
    19. check your post in the preview pane to make sure the picture isn't too big (or too small!)
    20. if it's too big, just go back to 9 in the first set, reduce it again, then procede from there
    21. If it's too small you'll have to go back to no 1 in the first set and start over!!!

Clever you - you've just posted your first pic!!
Do let me know if you have any difficulties.

Hi MD,I can manage pictures OK, but am still unclear about avatars. I can't, for some reason neither I nor the nice people from photbucket can unearth, use photobucket, so at present I'm using imageshack, but this shouldn't make any difference, should it? I usually try to edit my pics. in photoshop [old V.5] particularly to get a jpg format.
Can you tell me what is the difference between a picture of 100x100pixels but large file size and similar of small file size? Is it resolution?
I know others have problems as well...
