Nothing beats watching bees go about they daily work. Such dedication and zeal that they put into trying to get up inside things like the toadflax, linaria or a foxglove. They are so brave, but then again, they don't no fear or bravery do they?
Apart from the bee eater bird , which I don't think gets to our shores, what other predators to do they have? Apart from man and his sprays...
    Apologies - just rambling tonight,
    Jenny

I'm squeamish about touching/ killing . I know it's pathetic and hypocritical. I don't like slug or snail traps either. I have 5 Camellias out the front and getting to the undersides of all their leaves is beyond me Armandii,

I signed a petition about bees a few weeks back on 38 degrees and emailed my MP at the same time. I was surprised to find I had a letter from the house of commons a few days later saying basically "they were looking into it".

Felt like I was being fobbed off.

I signed the same petition, but I didn't get a letter.

I said in the message to my MP "If you don't do anything about this, I will never vote for you ever again"

That may have had something to do with it. :dunno: Although I never voted for him in the first place.

I think maybe I didn't get a letter because he might have remembered me from a previous dispute. It was when the gov wanted to sell off the last of the state owned woodland. I got a stock response from my MP, which I painstaking dissected in meticulous detail and used as material for a gazillion very awkward questions back to him.

Here's a tip which I found to be very effective when only a systemic insecticide will work, Jenny. Dilute enough Provado to fill a 2-gallon watering can for each plant and water all over the root area. The plants take up the chemical without damaging beneficial insects, apart possibly from earthworms:dunno:
I had to tackle a huge bay tree infested with scale insect, and that worked really well!

If I'm forced to use an insecticide, because of a serious infestation, I put a bin bag over the plant, cut a small hole in the top and spray into it. That confines the spray and minimises the danger, and I only do that in the late evening.:coffee:

What a great idea noisette. And it won't harm the bees. I will do that when the sap becomes active,
                      thank you,
