Well, Babans brood are three weeks old now. Moving about quite strongly and can get out of their basket quite easily. In another week or so, they'll be discovering the outside world, weather permitting. Once they get out in the fresh air with some space they soon learn to run about and that builds up their muscles very quickly. Although Baban still keeps a careful eye on them, she's quite relaxed now about leaving them for lengthy periods and is getting her condition back by chasing her ball in the garden.
They are using their eyes well now and can track moving objects. Their coats are taking on the Welshie black jacket with tan heads and legs and their ears are just starting to drop forwards.
Should be getting some better quality pics an another week or so but until then...

Well, the puppies are now over 4 weeks old now and starting to look like proper little Terriers. Baban hasn't had her coat seen to for about two and a half months so it's very shaggy. With the warm weather, this is the second outing into the garden for the pups and they're quite liking the new experiences and smells now.

Five weeks old and getting braver and stronger all the time. The two steps in and out of the garden pose little problems for them now, as soon as I open the door in the morning, there's a mad rush to see who can get to the front door first.
Ever wondered what the world looks like to a puppy?

All their new people have been to see them now and been introduced to puppies mum and dad and played with the puppies. The next problem is agreeing on names for them, we havn't even decided on official kennel names yet.
The weaning process started today with a slap up meal of rice pud. This is always a bit of an event as the pups usually end up swimming in it, but this lot had better table manners and it all went off smoothly (we were hoping for pics of pups covered in rice pud! :)

So far so good, all being well the puppies will go to their new homes in about 3 weeks. As for now, they are typical feisty little terriers, spending their waking hours eating and scrapping with each other. Still, thankfully, they sleep for most of the time. Out in the garden, they are just about beginning to learn how to play ball with mum.

Terrier - what a lovely documented picture story of a lovely little family!

I am going to be heartbroken when they all have to leave Baban.

Your photos of them are a joy.

The people we let the pups go to are carefully vetted and have to meet certain criteria before they even get on the waiting list. If people have taken the trouble to find the breed and research it to the point they still want one, and they have got past the OH telling them all the dubious points about owning a Welshie (she makes sure they know exactly what they're letting themselves in for :) ) they can then put their name down for a pup or a rescue. When they finally take their dog to it's new home, they are encouraged to keep in touch and most become good friends, giving us regular updates on how the youngster is doing. We also have a chat forum (like this one) which is going from strength to strength. We arrange get togethers around the country so we can all meet up with our dogs. So, you see, they never really leave us, the 'family' just gets bigger.
