Might be too late in the year for babies. What do you feed her/him?

Well there's 5 big koi and possibly 10-20 goldfish. They all get fed on this same orangey reddy floating pellets. The owners left us the big sack full. They've had some of the fish about 20yrs and always fed on this-so hoping it's not the food.

Had a look this morning and no sign of the koi on it's side luckily. I'm quite worried about it. Husband's going to ring the aquatics place and see if they can come and have a look and give us some advice. Id hate for the fish to keep popping their clogs if it's preventable. Poor things-I've grown to really like them.

Managed to get a photo just now. [IMG]

Again had to nudge him/her to move them. It swam away and a few mins later is back in the same position....then swam away again without nudging.

Probably not related but do you know how old the fish food is ? once opened it will start to lose nutrients & can go rancid quickly if not stored in a cool dry place. Best only to buy enough for a month at a time.

Not sure actually but the last owners had had the fish for a long time so doubt they'd have fed them anything bad. The food is kept in tightly sealed plastic tubs.

Just been out to check on the pond before bed and she's not at the top on her side so hope she is ok.

Does she have difficulty in swimming, could be a problem with her swim bladder.

I don't think so-we have two goldy koi so sometimes difficult to tell which one is which-not noticed a swimming problem specifically with either-i'll keep an eye out when i feed them in the morning. I was beginning to think it might just be an unusual habit she has.

Is there enough oxygen in there? Fountain or waterfall etc.

I think so-the aquatics centre thought it was fine when we asked a few weeks ago about water colour. Been out this morning and even from our bedroom window I could see her in the usual place. Got some more pics too. She seems to be swimming and eating fine. [IMG][IMG]

Managed to get to the aquatics centre today and we're doing another 20% water change and have adjusted the uv filter so more water passes by the uv bulb. We need to get it pond vac'd. Once the water clarity is sorted we can then look at the fish issues. We may have too many fish for the size of the pond!

Good news. I thought the water looked too cloudy for Koi to be happy in. A pruning of that Canadian pond weed wouldf help too.

We've taken loads of that pond weed out-it grows quick-i thought it was good for oxygenating the pond?

I cant remember dimensions of the pond at the moment-husband has dealt with that bit.

Oxygenating weed only works during daylight, at night it takes Oxygen out of the water, so actually it is not a good thing to have especially with Koi.
