    Whilst I (and several others) were carrying out an initial part of my surveying training in a park close to the college using levels, chains, etc., a member of the public asked what we were doing. so I explained we were surveying the route of the new by-pass that would go straight through their local park. Got told off for that one.

      I once got people to join their local commuters' association (Mrs Shiney had been trying to get them to join for some time) by putting a poster on the station noticeboard saying "Is ..... Station going to close?"

      It's a small local station in the country but 400 people signed up within a week!
