So basically the Swear Filter in simple terms, the way it is, is working fine:doh::snork:

I don't understand the need to publish the banned profanity list to be honest:dunno: As it is it's not a fixed list in the sense that it gets added to whenever a new profanity comes into fashion!! We've all lived long enough, and are intelligent enough,to understand what's acceptable language and what's not. The Swear Filter just acts as a first line of protection from causing offence to our more sensitive members but the real line of defence is us thinking first before posting anything offensive, be it a word or a complete Thread/Post.:coffee:

If we let it this subject, like all subjects, can get really complex and cause disagreement but so long as we don't F/B &*$£@ swear in the first place then what's the **&^%$@% problem??:dunno::doh::snork:

It would help me if the replacement word was hi-lighted in some way (or just said "censored" or somesuch). Is it worth trying my suggestion on one of the replacement words to see if the "replace" would still work?

Agree with your other points. "The List" is down to admin etc. and perhaps people objecting to any post that contains censored words - encouraging people not to feel the need to use those words in the first place might have some effect - they aren't going to show, so use a word that better describes what you want to say!

In many a situation no matter how polite folk are, with a bit of imagination you know exactly what they mean when their garden has been trashed by snails and slugs..."Oh dear" doesn't seem strong enough...I use :mute: in these certain circumstances, saves me getting banned:biggrin:

I sometimes think that there are a few everyday words which you often hear, seem to fall foul of the filter.
Not that I would ever use them of course,:snork:.

I think I mentioned the war once, but I got away with it.

Fully agree, the present system works just fine (I didn't even realise that there was a system in place) so why change it. I fail to see why we would want to know that a profanity had been replaced with a "more acceptable" word.

Your comments and suggestions are, as you know, most welcome and well received, Kristen. I will refer your suggestion to the Webmaster and the rest of us Motley Admin to get a consensus and see if something can be done!!

Just testing - it used to edit non-profanities such as scrape because of the four middle letters. Don't know whether it will do it now.

OK now, :blue thumb: but it has started changing 'wellies' to 'willies' :loll:

                      That didn't work @Kristen

No option to change the colour of the typeface, had a good look round.

Don't tell anybody but i'm dyslxeic and bad at spelling, the bad word filter is ok for me but i have to read most posts twice to get it in my mind anyway, so i'm quite happy if it's changed or stays the same

It has only recently (a few months) started doing it so I guess it came automatically in an IE update.

As it amuses me, I might not bother to change it in future. :heehee: Little things....
