Can't change the colour (unless I did something wrong with Kristen's coding)

I could put " " around each word if that would help?

I was suggesting the opposite, the list of substitute words.

Join the Club, Jiffy!!! I always read everything at least twice so that I can absorb it so there's nothing wrong with that:snork:

To be honest, Jiffy, it matters not to the GC Gang as we really do enjoy your posts:snork:. I also suspect that there are other members who haven't declared being dyslexic [for various reasons] and who "soldier" on trying to make some sort of sense of my posts:gaah::heehee:

Hmmm, putting quotation marks around the filtered word will look like a quote. So any person who uses a quote in a post will look as though they are swearing!!:heehee: There must be a better way to highlight a filtered word.:dunno: Hopefully, Nathan or Rich might be able to suggest incorporating a colour highlight for those that need it.

Something to show it's been changed would help make sense of some automatically edited posts, *Moo Poo*, etc. might be better than "Moo Poo" as quotation marks will be used for other stuff, like quotations.

Oh, B%$£**, sorry Scrungee I misunderstood you:heehee: I would have thought the list of "substitute" words would be infinite and only subject to the limitations of the human brain. I'm a fan of Battle Star Galactica and they use the words "Frack and Fracking" quite a lot. Now while I'm sure that word has become a swear word to many Americans who've been affected by the method of Fracking and a lot of British people who are worried about it affecting them so far it's not down as a swear word.:dunno::heehee:

Yep, Victoria:doh::dunno::snork:.............and without any swearing:heehee: Actually, there are good grounds from people who are dyslexic to point out they are having problems reading a certain word as being logical within a sentence and for members and Admin to see if there's enough of a problem to require a solution.:coffee:

You are failing to see it because you are not dyslexic, and are not considering that viewpoint.

I very rarely post on the subject of dyslexia - I just get on with my life and am used to dealing with it. I put up with people thinking it is helpful to correct my spelling, or point fun at it if I happen to misspell something that they can make a joke out of. FWIW it would better that when people understand what was meant they just carry on, and if not they ask for clarification, anything else is the same as pointing and laughing at someone in the street in a wheelchair. If you can spell great, lucky you :) doesn't mean that other people can. I wasn't lazy at school, I was a year up, top set, all that jazz ... but if my life depending on me being able to spell something, even a relatively simple word - like the difference between Angle and Angel - then it would be curtains for me!

I only created this thread in the first place as I stumbled over something that might have been of passing interest. In the course of the discussion a number of interesting / tangential points were raised, and additionally it became clear to me that it would help me considerably. FWIW I have signatures turned off, could do without any moving smilies, struggle if the formatting is changed (with upgrades and the like) as it all effects my rate of comprehension. If I spell something wrongly, but correctly form another word (i.e. spell checker doesn't highlight it) trying to figure out what I meant (and assuming that I ever spot the mistake in the first place) is difficult for me. Same thing with substitutions made by the bad word filter - for example the other day "it is a fag to do XXX" was changed to "cigarette". The sentence made no sense to me, and took me several minutes to try to deduce what the originally meaning might have been. I expect for most people its either something that they can figure out quickly - along with anagrams, Countdown, and the like - or it is not something that they bother to understand (I expect I need more comprehension to be able to grasp the text properly - I can't skim-read, frequently mis-read, etc etc). I can spell a word differently three times on a page, and they all look correct to me. I proof read my replies, post them, then spot a mistake and re-edit, or I spot the mistake when someone replies and I recheck what I wrote. Haven't checked, per se, but I suspect that my level of re-edits of posts is way higher than the norm!

                    Thanks for that Zigs.

I think that sort of indication might be a nuisance for folk - although I quite like @Scrungee's suggestion. Only thought I have had is if some rarely used symbol was used (Speech Marks not a good choice on that basis I think as confused with normal usage :) ). Could perhaps use a pair of rarely used brackets? [Moo Poo] or {Moo Poo} .... but if that is a pain for folk best to leave as-is I reckon; however, if you are adding new words the less cryptic they are the better from my PoV. "Censored", or whatever, would be just fine for me :)

Sheesh ... this is a gardening forum and as far as I am concerned we don't care how people speak, write or whatever ... perhaps I am missing something of importance here ... but I don't think so ...

I, for one, am glad you did, Kristen. This is an Open Forum with all sorts of subjects discussed and hopefully such threads as this recognise problems that members have, discuss them logically and intelligently, and make suggestions on how to solve them if possible.:coffee::snork:

Yep, you are, Victoria. You know better than I, Victoria, that the main thrust of discussion on GC is Gardening but that we do discuss other subjects and you, yourself, have contributed to many non-gardening threads. So perhaps the extending of a little patience and tolerance to other people's non-gardening threads and the problems that they believe they face might not be a bad thing.:dunno::snork:

Vicky, I don't think there's even a suggestion of a problem with how people speak, write, spell etc. here on GC. The problem for some is how the software automatically changes words because it thinks they are words that should be censored.

For some people, like you and I who don't have problems with words, the software alterations are easily understood for what they are or are worked out quickly. For others the, sometimes nonsensical, software alterations are extremely confusing.

This discussion is to try and find out the most common misunderstandings and see how, if it's possible within the software, to overcome them. :blue thumb: :)

                              Kristen,
the trouble is your dyslexia is not apparent in your posts. It wasn't until today that it found out that it takes so long for you to compose your replies. I recognise, above all, your skills, your knowledge and credible advice on Gardening matters and that, in essence, is what GC is all about. Not our deficiencies, just a great forum, warts and all,
                              my best wishes and respect,
