Thanks very much for your compliments but if you saw the balcony now it looks horrible!

Thanks very much. I don't much bother about colour themes, I generally grow whatever takes my fancy. I don't garden to show off, well not particularly anyway! Obviously I'm pleased when people occasionally compliment me on the balcony but I don't garden for that reason, just the fun of growing things, that's all.

Yet in May 2021 I was in town looking for some Petunias to put on top of the balcony railings. Before last year I'd never grow just a single colour before preferring mixed ones. But as I was looking at the Petunias outside the shop I saw they had lots of white ones all grouped together. I thought how different they looked & that I could do the same on our balcony. So I bought a couple of packs but when I planted them up I found I didn't have quite enough so a few days later I went back & bought some more. These were marked as white & had a few white flowers but imagine how I felt about having my "colour scheme" ruined when at least 3 pots turned out to have not just one white in them but up to 3 different colours! When these started to flower it was too late to separate the plants & take out the coloured ones as it had been at least 3 weeks since I planted them up & to separate them after that long would probably killed the plants so I just let them get on with their thing!

I must admit though, the coloured Petunias were very nice all the same & I don't regret growing them!

Balcony on last day of 2021 31st December 2021.jpg

Not as good as the photo from August, is it? In fact at that time it was a bit of a mess!

At church today we were given a tiny biodegradable pot each with a tiny amount of compost in it & a Sunflower seed! We were asked to sow the seed in the pot & as the plant grows during the summer to use it as a focal point for our prayers for Ukraine. We were also give a tiny Ukrainian flag & a prayer, by the archbishop of Canterbury, which we are asked to use when we pray for the situation there.

I hope the sunflower thrives for both you and Ukraine. :)
