@martin-f How many bamboos have you bought! Big fan of bamboos then!? You've done well. Those shoots are so healthy. Mine shot up to 6 feet by very thin.

          Bamboo

This is the most ive spent M :yikes:, bamboo was £35 each the black ones should have been £40 but she only scanned the cheaper golden

Barrels was £10 £5 per plant + and bag of compost each plant £4, each plant stands me at £44x4=£176 :yikes: that no bargain :snork: is it

Barrels - could have done it cheaper :rasp:

Compost: should have bought at 3-for-2 ;) (or, even better, used compost from your composter  )

Ok, a "Yorkshire man" in training :heehee:

That's better M :yahoo:lol, 50 this year :old: I don't think I will change now :), I tend to be petty with money with things I could do with, then spend lots on things I don't need :dunno:

@martin-f Didn't know you replied. Yes, bamboos are always expensive. I split all mine and sometimes sell them on ebay so that I can get a bit money to buy compost and new plants. I really love my Fargesia Blue Fountain. My most expensive bamboo is £19.99 but it was very small. Delivery cost a bit,but I couldn't find it in garden centre of diy gc. It will be a good investment as they will give you a lot of pleasure.

Hi alp, I now really love bamboo. its become my favourite thing in the garden, its got so much going for it, it nice to hear its leaves blow in the wind. it acts as a screen, where mine are situated I can remove lower braches and still see up/down the garden while retaining nice polished canes and a screen where I want it, you can easy shape it,

You can grow things up them clematis/roses etc, once topped it wont grow any higher. and if you get fed up of it you can cut it down and use it around the garden,

I have a picture in my head :rolleyespink: a lovely red rose climbing up one and a few different coloured roses climbing up the others :)

@martin-f That's what I did and you know you have taken the words out of my mouth. I trimmed the lower leaves to make way for a canopy on the top to concentrate where the leaves flourish i.e on the top. and I already have a Jackmanii going up one clump of bamboo and a Paul Scarlett rose which I bought from pound shop. Now it has 6 flowers and loads of buds near the top of a bay, near another clump of bamboo. But I think the Paul Scarlett might be too heavy for my bamboo. Fargesia Blue Fountain, in my opinion, is far superior to Fargesia Jiangu??? which has a dull reddish colour whilst the Blue Fountain has polished shiny burnished red. I have watered mine near the front garden once every 2 days since last year and it has now thrown up nearly 10 new shoots.

Feed them with fertilisers for grass and clematis and especially water.

Hi alp thank you for the information great minds think alike ,

Would you be so kind to post a few pictures up please :)

This is my plan, its still work in progress :blue thumb:
                          plan.jpg

The arbour and right side as we look at the plan is more/less complete, my garden is now on two levels with a patio/decking on the lower level, the first picture I'm stood on the lower level as you can see with the bottom of the bamboo trimmed I still have a good view up/down the garden

Wow! Some engineer in here! Haha! Great minds might think alike, but I can't even build a raised seed bed! Lovely work and I love the subtle pastely blue.. My plants are still very small. I will try to upload some.
