I treat the leaves that are shed as a mulch and just leave them. I thin mine every year and am just waiting to see if the one that flowered last year sends up any decent shoots this spring. I cut all the dead canes out the other week and then fed it with some blood fish and bone and mulched with garden compost, it's now looking very sparse.

Yes ive done the same with the leaves and left them as mulch,

I have a vision in mind how i want them until they grow more i don't want to do anything with them.

Shame it flowered :frown: i did read they can die after but some will throw up new shoots :fingers crossed: crossed for you :)

Thanks i will give them a small feed then :).

As usual don't seem to have a decent photo of it - Google image below.

Not able to see the pics

Maybe my bamboo was mislabelled as its very small similar to that pic Harry.

I'd like some of the black stemmed stuff too.

I have two large low profile pots either side of the step of my Observatory. I've no idea what Bamboo it is as I dug it up,with permission, from the grounds of a Chemical Company that had closed down and they were demolishing everything in sight to build a Housing Estate. I split it into two and it's been in the pots for around 10 years and I just keep an eye on both pots as, has been said, they like damp and water.
