I've removed both, I can't remember how hard was the pampas grass, but I doubt it was as hard as the bamboo, a clump only just over half the size of yours, I had to dig it out with a sharp spade, which took considerable effort. It came out in one big clump. I then used the spade to chop it up into small segments, by placing it on a paving stone and really "going at it."

It was worth the efforts as it now forms our six inches deep "forest" at the bottom of our garden.

I think you'd be wiser and better off hiring a Gardener for the day to dig it out, Sheal, as it might prove too hard for yourself.:love30::snorky:

Thanks all for the info. I don't really want to kill it but it's such a good specimen I was thinking it might sell. It's in clump form and I can't see any shoots elsewhere in the garden. It was pruned before we moved in and you can see it here to the left of the oil tank. I'll get some better shots tomorrow.

I'd attempt it but my digging ankle is giving up on me, but I know a 'man that does' and he will pull it out for me. :)

Looking at it, it seems very similar to mine, in that it may have been there for some years. Our forest when it was a clump wasn't very tall and I moved it all of twenty years ago. They do make a nice screen, but as ours has been messed about, isn't self supporting as it would be as a solid clump and I have wires stretched across the length to stop it falling forward.

I would imagine it's been there a while Doghouse Riley and it looks out of place, there seems to be no reason for planting it there. It's not as if it disguises the oil tank either. What you can't see at the moment is a 4ft long Lilac stump in amongst it that still seems to be alive. It was also under planted with a Sedum, which I've moved and a Euphorbia that will be binned. Once it's gone I'll surround the tank with a climber or two. :)

Why not make use of it S by dividing it and using what you've divided as a screen to hide the tank, it could have been the last owners intention but never got round to it.

That's exactly what I was going to suggest. It would only have to be done on the two sides that we can see and the fence can be used to support it.
There's obviously enough their to make at least a dozen or so plants and like mine it will spread, though not that quickly.

It will have to come out Martin along with the Lilac stump as I want to plant around the tank. :)

                              Thanks S :),

I was watching a series recently called woodmen, basically its about men living in tree houses out in the sticks on one of the series they go to help a neighbour to remove some trees and that's what they end up doing blowing it up with dynamite,

I know you mention you don't watch much tv but if you get the chance its worth a watch :)
