Hotter the better mate :D I want some serious palm growth this year. Do you think my aloe will survive outside next winter ? I will post up a picture tomorrow, it is twice the size I would say. I also have a big agave that is relegated to the downstairs loo, it is so big and spikey. He is going out for winter trials too I think. :D

Your garden looks so lush Bananaman. I am SO jealous!!! One of my bamboos look dead after I transplanted him in the Fall. Tell us your secret.

You're getting the hang of this creative photo stuff, aren't you, Woo! She'd be right at home in BM's garden, that's for sure! But maybe she should wait a couple of months.....

I would plant the aloe out this spring BM, and let it establish this summer, it should be OK next winter. [IMG]

Free draining moist soil with plenty of summer food too. I have mine in a JI2 and 3, compost, broken clay soil, bark, grit, chicken poo mix. They get well watered in the summer but not so as to sit in water. Beyond soil, the key to a good bamboo is food and water. If you have a tree or large shrub in close proximity don't underestimate how this can affect a bamboo. The number of times I have heard people say 'my bamboo perked up after I removed the...' I have loads of thirsty plants in close proximity and know that I have to compensate for the water taken away from the bamboos. Liquid chicken poo, (dissolved pellets) is the best way to feed your plants during the summer. It is cheap and really easy to make and administer. If you search or use the links in this thread, I have loads of hideout threads with the tropical plants I grow. Bananas being my favourite of these of course. :D

What bamboo do you have luckyboo, was it recently transplanted ?

Hi Rosy, if you get through those fine looking bananas, you can have some of my green ones. :D

I have a resident monkey who likes to be visited by tropical friends :D

Many thanks BM for your links. I will have a good look into them. I am looking to put some tall plants on my borders (simply a fencing panel) and am concerned by what I could be unleashing on my neighbour.

    Nice collection of pictures BM.
That Eucomis is early starting, last years leaves, on mine, were only killed by the frost a couple of weeks ago.
    The aloe's [IMG] looking good.

Just off to down some lunch and I will post some up. Unsurprisingly I have a few. Although I will take some more this year as I have a new nightime focus, which will show more of the lighting :D

Hi pete, yes the eucomis leaves have only gone in the last 3-4 weeks. Not much rest considering how long it grows the rest of the year. I really like the Aloe you gave me. I am looking forward to planting it out. [IMG]
