    so what are the shoots?

I have spent a hard painful day in the garden - all quite depressing, but there is the wierdest stuff comming up out of the ground and in abandoned pots and this has for the most part kept me at it!

no - its just stuff that was put in pots when we moved the path for the greenhouse, and funny seeds/bulbs/tubers I stuck in pots and didn't label.

Threr is a spotted conical thing that looks like something you would grow, may be Dracunculous all probably fodda for the identification area.

This one (patriot) is first every year, the clump is huge and produces a lovely spread.

But at the height of the season gets crowded out by Hosta fortunei aureomarginata. I have arrowed Hosta fortunei aureomarginata, patriot is next left.

    Waco - :D

Is Patriot the bluey one that's supposed to be less attractive to slugs, BM? Or are you a slug-free zone anyway?

I have a MASSIVE BIG blue one, slugs hate it and it flowers like a star, fantastic big lilac flowers. Years agao people told me it was the most boaring hosta you could have the un imagination to plant, but now everyone going for the big ble ones and don't the slugs hate them!

Hosta 'Krossa Regal' I think its called, it is a mahoosive blue one. Fairly slug resistant. Please don't flame me with eco system arguements, but I pellet the hosta bed as soon as the shoots start to uncurl. This pretty much removes the worst offenders and I have a pretty slug free year. If it is warm and it rains, I do go out with a torch and put them all in a bucket, and then straight in the green waste bin.
I still have lots of birds bla bla bla. :D

If these links don't work, use this one and scroll down to 'Large' for Patriot and 'Extra Large' for Krossa.
