I've got a few of these, which I bought for £5.00 each in my local hardware store.

@luciusmaximus, the half barrel I got was £20 on Gumtree. It is a genuine ex whisky barrel - you could smell it in the car. If we had been stopped we would have been breathalysed when we opened the window! You can see from the photo in the Barrel Pond thread that it's a bit tattered, but it's watertight.

                    Small pond Update.
I haven't yet found any logs to go round it (hope to remedy that soon) but I have put a pygmy Water Lily' Helvola' in, although I haven't got any submerged oxygenators or floating Water Soldier yet. The first Caltha has just opened.
I have found that with a small barrel, it does fill up quickly when there is a lot of rain so I remove enough to keep the same level.

It's looking very nice, @strongylodon. I like the leaves trailing across the surface. By the summer it will look like it has been there for years.

I haven't done anything with mine yet. I've left it outside since I got it, but it still smells of whisky and has an oily residue on the surface of the rainwater. Will have to think about a liner.
