I wonder whether they were complaining because Clarkson said the strikers should be shot, or because he said he liked the fact that one could get around town easily and it felt like the seventies again? Really, the standard of thinking out there makes Forrest Gump look like a towering intellectual. I blame the teachers. <JOKE> <JOKE> <JOKE>

He's already done that plenty. He's interviewed Jack Straw and 2 Jags Prescott on Top Gear, as well as numerous other high ranking MPs. I watched it, and I can tell you they got ripped to shreds.

He also famously once forgot to switch off his mic before famously making a comment about our former PM.

    Approx 70 million UK residents.

    5000 / 70000000 * 100 = 0.007% of the UK population were upset enough to complain.

No wonder it is dominating the news then!

This whole thing has pretty much been taken out of context though, if you watch the whole thing he's actually pretty positive about it and then he goes on to say "as this is the BBC then we have to be balanced" and then he says "public sector workers who strike should be taken outside and shot"

so it's more of a dig at the BBC then anyone else.

This is the closest thing I came to finding a full clip, and how many of the people who actually watched this and then complained? or waited 2 days for the hype to build up and then watch an edited clip on youtube:mad:

I find Jeremy Clarkson is a bit of a nurk but that's what makes him popular and it's TV personalities like clarkson on BBC programmes which makes them sell so well overseas thus make money for the BBC

Oh for pity's sake - he wasn't serious! It was a joke - he said it was a joke moments before it was uttered. Has nobody any sense of humour any more? Listen to the entirety of what he said before you hang him out to dry!

The problem is that what he said has been edited by the media to make it sound worse. It's reported, now, that it's not possible, to get a full copy of his interview as the BBC have removed it from iplayer. You can only get clips that contain the, so called, 'bad' part.

The BBC have admitted that he checked his script (yes, he had scripted it) with them first and it was passed by them as being his typical humorous dig at the BBC and the rule about being even handed and balanced. He said the strike and the strikers were fantastic as it made things easier for his driving but ".. this is the BBC so I have to give a balanced view..." and then said his usual, overemphasised type of comment. Clarkson takes the pee out of everyone and everything, and that's what has made him so popular.

If people had, just as seriously, taken everything the Monty Python team had said, it would not have lasted five years plus a number of very successful films, stage shows etc. They took the pee out of everything and many of their skits were tasteless (that's an understatement in some instances) but you have to take things in context.

              That is so true!
I was watching the Mr.Creosote sketch the other day, and noticed for the forst time the thing that John Cleese does right at the end!

I can't believe the whole thing was scripted and checked and then the Beeb got ruffled after the event! Well, yes, actually the problem is that I can. We're fast becoming a nation of mentally enfeebled children. As soon as someone fears that his/her job is on the line, instead of standing by a controversial decision, they shout 'it wasn't me, it was him'. All this over a bit of pratting around by Clarkson. Sheesh. It doesn't give you much faith in the Corporation's ability to handle serious stuff.

Not so long ago, no one got a look in on the BBC if they were Eurosceptics. The Corporation genuinely seemed to feel that you were mad or bad or possibly both if you weren't utterly sold on every aspect of the union. Funnily enough, the Euro-enthusiasts seem to have gone a bit quiet recently.
