We are truly unique, gardeners must have a sense of humour ,otherwise after years like last and this winter :cry3: we would all be on medication.

My broad beans seem really reluctant, whilst the peas sown at the same time have their heads a good inch above the compost - - - am I missing something?

All my beans are still in the blowaway. I deleiberately started them late this year, in fact after my disaster with nearly everything earlier in the year, I haven't really got started again this year yet.

Now I have 40 broad bean seedlings and 25 runners in the greenhouse. They're going in the ground this weekend or next, and I'm going to sow another batch to follow them.

The weather is behaving too freakily to follow normal rules I think.

I brought my beans and peas (in pots) out from the greenhouse today - and the leaves went floppy :gaah: - they quickly went back inside - will try again tomorrow - maybe too much sun today (not that I'm complaining :))

Do you keep them extra well watered when you fetch them out? I find the greenhouse is very humid, so stuff in there needs less water than when outside. My greenhouse is a blowaway over soil, so when its warm, water evaporates from the ground and condenses on the ceiling, then being a blowaway, the slightest breeze rattles it and it rains inside.

No no my buckets were free, when my garden had to have some work done 2 years ago, everything was dug up and put into those buckets, after replanting I kept them, they are in the shed, they all have holes drilled in the bottom, I did count them once and it was somewhere around 65, enough to last my lifetime anyway. :loll:

We have large, black, square containers that hold a similar amount to a bucket. They were free, from Sainsbury's, as they are the containers that they keep their cut flowers in. We just asked if they had any spare ones and they gave us a dozen :dbgrtmb:
