      Really gets going in April,

With Doves and Pigeons it's more a caller id, your collared dove sings "A pigeon,a pigeon.."

While your Wood Pigeon sings "A stupid pigeon, a stupid pigeon, a."

It all starts to go quiet on the morning song front around November time and then strikes up in January from a few hearty souls. By Spring it is in full swing with a whole host of birds adding their (territorial/courting) tones.
You may notice it goes a bit quieter around August time and that is when the adult birds go into moult and the fledglings get their adult feathers. Singing uses up energy which they need to divert during moult for producing their new shiny feathers. They start again end of August beginning of September through until November time and so the cycle begins all over again.
BTW, the blackbirds who are singing their hearts out in Spring are not the same blackbirds who are singing their hearts out come New Year ;) All to do with migration, I believe.
NB: these are my humble offerings based on my personal experiences of both town and country living. Regional differences (I'm quite sure!) will apply :snorky:
Oh, and it is beginning to get light here around 7am :blue thumb:

I suppose it also depends on how many birds there are congregating near you :hate-shocked:

Our garden sometimes gets very busy.

The only rule we have about it is 'don't walk underneath them'!

Even though I live on the edge of an estate and have up to 12 different birds come to the garden, there is no dawn chorus!:frown: Just the occasional Robin and Blackbird singing at dusk.

At least it is getting late earlier:scratch::biggrin:

The Tawney owls are back in the garden, never see them only hear them in spring and autumn. Sunday there was a woodpecker drumming away in the scrub at the back.

We have three families of woodpeckers in the trees at the end of the garden. We hear the drumming from them and the occasional screech when they're in flight. The pheasants make their screeching noise if something surprises them. The smaller birds are cheeping away all the time but I don't think we get a dawn chorus.

They are the ones singing here but just before sunrise; others will join in once the weather warms up a bit

Are you up early enough to hear them? ;) :heehee:
