:hehe::hehe::hehe:

I bought some beetroot juice yesterday and it is delicious! :thumb: It is for Mr K and his high BP, hope it helps him. Like Marley, I better not take too much of it or my BP will take a dive which is definitely doesn't need.

Re Kohlrabi. Years ago we used to get both the green and purple up here in north Germany. Then the trend went to the green, so now you rarely find the purple kind, although I have seen seeds for it.

It is great with a cream sauce over it, sprinkled with lots of chopped parsley.

Chocolate Beetroot Cake

50g cocoa powder
6 tablespoons boiling water
175g plain flour
1.5 tspns baking powder
1.5 tspns bicarb of soda
115g butter or soft marg
3 eggs
5 tbspns milk
225g grated beetroot (uncooked)
65g chopped walnuts
80g 70% dark chocolate (chopped)
Icing
125 ml double cream
115 g 70% dark chocolate

Base line, grease and flour two 20cm sandwich cake tins and preheat oven to 180/350
Pour boiling water over the cocoa powder and mix to a paste in a large bowl. Allow to cool. Combine flour, baking powder and bicarb and sift into the bowl. Add all the remaining ingredients (except beetroot, walnuts and chocolate) and mix together until smooth. Stir in remaining ingredients. Divide mixture between the cake tins and bake for 40-45 minutes until risen. Turn out and allow to cool before icing.

For the icing melt the cream and chocolate together over a pan of hot water. When cool spread use half to sandwich the two cakes together and spread the remainder on the top.

ENJOY !

That sounds good (and easy!) to jazz up a salad, Mary. :gnthb:

Got some beetroots today, Marley, so am going to try your recipe of roasted ones out tomorrow. They are already peeled and cooked (vacuum packed), so guess they won't take long to crip up. Mmmhhhh, am looking forward to them now.

:) Hi high kype (and Kathy) xx

That does sound nice and reminds me of the shredded carrot in jelly recipe I used to do in the States to have with salad. Like Sis I have a vacuum pack of them and plan on having some with a jacket potato tonight.

Strange that you say shredded carrot in jelly, Sis, as I said to hubby this morning, that High Kype's recipe sounds like it could be American.

It would be perfect on a hot day, unfortunately, today it is cool and rainy. But I shall definitely try it out.

Now I've told t'other half about this thread and he wants me to make the pineapple/cream cheese/jelly and I have a pineapple jelly here to go with a salad, so I'll do that later this week. It is consistently hot here (low last night 26c, high today 32c so not much change) so we're into 'cool' suppers. :)
