Best Multi Purpose compost 2015...Your thoughts please.

@IceColdRum When I was at B&Q today I saw a torn bag of Miracle Gro MPC, remembered it was one of those in the link you posted above, so took a pic of it. I certainly wouldn't want to stick my seeds in that rough old stuff.

P.S. I've already used over 90 Litres of seed, JI and multi-purpose compost this year.

Just opened a bag. I mixed this amount with 2 hands full of kiln dried fine sand and have potted on a house plant . It looks rather good,

I'm glad to hear that peat is making a comeback. The big drawback with the alternatives used in MPC was their attractiveness to fungus gnats (sciarid flies). I lost so many seedlings to them last year so mixed my own peat-based seed compost this year. Not a sciarid fly in sight! Now I've got to mix something a bit more nourishing for potting on :-)

 

So this will be the first report on Wickes MPC 2015 . It used to be my favourite MPC until all the kerfuffle two years ago.

 

Have just used the 120lt homebase mpc .seems to be an excellent compost this year.Also had some Premier compost and that too is of excellent quality.
I add sharp sand to my compost

 

I've been very happy with Wickes compost this year. I'm going to get a bag of Jacks Magic tomorrow though as I've noticed that a lot of members here have given a good report on it. I'd like to see how it compares.

 

Jack's Magic is very good Fern. I'm using it for the first time this year and so far very successful with my seeds/seedlings.

 

Who sells Jacks Magic ?

 

I've been using this stuff for 2 years, its by far the best MP compost I've used, an 80lt bag costs me £4.50.

Its lovely and fine and can be used for seeds, potting on, baskets, tubs etc, can't fault it at all

 

Homebase .......expensive.

Our local GC had it on special...............2x60 lts. £6.

 

I bought Jacks Magic from a local nursery £7 for 60 litres but shipping cost puts the price up here.

its full of wood fiber and mini twigs and the compost is light as a feather load of rubbish I wont be getting that again
