I was thinking possibly a bit further afield, than Europe and varying climates where peat would have to be shipped a few thousand miles perhaps.
As I say, if you buy plants from presumably hotter countries they seem to be in some kind of clay mix often with aggregates added.

There is some huge deposits of peat around the globe. Canada exports more peat than any other country, the peat lands cover an area of (110 million ha) with reserves of 35 billion tonnes. Compare that to Indonesia, the peat lands cover an area of (21 million ha) with reserves of 78 billion tonnes. No wonder companies have set up there to produce growing media substrates for exporting.

I forgot to mention, this online meeting with Defra only applies to England.
To my knowledge, there has been no consultations held in Scotland regarding a time scale to phase out peat.

If that's the case maybe we can have a GC lorry trip to buy peat MPC. Members can pick it up at stops on the way down the A1 :blue thumb:. Sorry, to those members on the west side but you can't do that on the M6 and M1. :noidea:

Or @gks can organise it for us. Maybe have a tea and cake bar set up inside :heehee:

Only delivered to Jack Gott yesterday and he has already uploaded an image of his fresh load of compost on his face book page. 2 pallets of multi-purpose and 1 of pot bedding, plus some bits and bobs. Also sent a sample of the peat free compost so he can do a comparison, doing comparisons with our normal peat reduced compost will give me better feedback as I know the exact ingredients of both composts for future reference.
