    Hi All
Fortunately just the one bag .... I bought B&Q Multipurpose compost , its got the most odd smell and lingers ,,, and its hard to describe but likes it had a disinfectant added.

Only using as a bulk mix with john inns grit sand etc for plants going into large pots as I make up my own mix.

Any one else had experienced ?

Stinky Spuce as I had to scrub my hands after to get the smell off

      *Pine disinfectant ?
Likely to be from the woodfibre (bark shredded) ,which is probably coniferous (Sitka?)

Not sure if you can get your hands on Clover, that is supposed to be 100% Irish Moss Peat. IMG_20230319_094904778~2.jpg

I'm not actually looking for compost I want just straight moss peat with no additives.
Yes I'm looking on e bay might have to get it from there but it's pricey because the delivery is built into the cost.

I started growing mine in peat years ago and so much sphagnum moss grew that as the collection of containers grew I started using chopped surplus sphagnum moss instead of peat. They seemed happy with this so that's how I've continued.

it was pricey but no other choice and tried locally 3 different garden centres and got told by one fool multipurpose was ok for carnivorous plants, I said no its not ! I have a 1/4 of a bag left stored in the garage... I could of bought a mix from a carnivorous nursery but the quantises I used as mine had vine weevil so I had to wash the roots and re pot everything.

I remember Eddi saying on here more was burnt for fuel in Ireland than what the UK USED on gardening ...

Got this from my local pet and plant shop .Pricey at £7.99 but very good quality with peat in it. I mix it with a cheaper one and add sand . Good for house plants,

I was looking at getting a 100ltr bale and that should last me £20 on Ebay.

I've been mixing it with ericacaous JI and grit for the proteas.
As I understand it they don't like strong fertiliser so i wanted something acidic and inert.

I seem to remember being told to sow sarracenia seed on chopped live sphagnum moss.
I never did, but I found they grew well enough on straight peat moss.
As you say, if you keep it wet it starts to grow anyway.
Used to get tiny sundews as well sometimes.

Not much choice of composts at GC's around here but Mrs S wanted to go to a particular one farther away as it had a clothing outlet.
I bought a few plants and later found I made a mistake by buying a bag of JI 1 compost 'for young plants'. It was denser and heavier than a JI2 I bought recently, it is far too heavy for young plants.
MPC was dearer but would have been lighter and more suitable. Live and learn and don't buy Westland.
