    A lot of people, mostly foreigners, buy up these properties for a song and renovate. They are usually middle aged or retired and, if need be and can, work remotely from home. We chose a derelict property 200 meters from a bus route and 6kms from a small town so not too isolated. Twenty minutes from the sea and twenty from the mountains. Living the dream. :yahoo:

      @Fat Controller ,..ah yes the location is easy enough to find,..one that is away from it all and scenic,..its the earning a living there that's the hard part to fill in,..i was aiming off for my present living area way before i retired.

          Sometimes instead of fishing i just take the rods and leave them be but enjoy the different islands and what can be seen,..it can be rough one hour with 1 metre high waves and up to 2 metres at times then it can be very calm,..lots of old houses old churches and castles to explore,..nobody living on the islands now.

                  @SamBigDeer ,

                  Hi Hank,..nice to see you and welcome to Gardeners Corner,..ah yes the Autumn Foliage is a beautiful sight to see,..it makes up for the end of the Summer blooms and shortens the space between Autumn/Winter before Spring arrives,..i will try capture more of Autumn foliage before all the leaves fall off.

                  Just a few captured yesterday while walking the dog.

                    Every November our area has flocks of Swans from Iceland,..'Whooper Swans'' and one can hear them from the garden answering each other,..they have yellow beaks,..our Mute Swans have orange beaks,..they do mingle with each other.

                      I berth my boat in the marina in this image,..taking a walk on this side of the river i can see the boat,..this saves me driving across the town bridge and through traffic to do a closer check.

                      This image is a small island,..it originally had a single story cottage,..when the owner died relatives took over the house and converted it into a two story house,..slight view of it on the left beyond the red boat shed,..the new owner also had three more houses build there for his immediate family.

                          Rain all day,..which was a blessing in a way as i pulled a muscle in my back,..so the longing to get outdoors wasn't so strong.

                          Some time back i headed off to County Clare on the West Coast,..decided to head off shore to visit The 'Skellig's and 'Cliffs of Moher'.

                          Music is by 'Vangelis',..my own Video.

                          The first recorded history of the Skellig Rock was in 490 AD when King Duach,.. King of West Munster,..he took refuge there when chased by the King of Carhel. In the 6th Century it became a Monastic Settlement. Viking raids took place there in 795 AD,..812 AD,..833 AD and 839 AD,..in spite of the attacks the community survived,.. though the lives of the monks is still much of a mystery.

                                Woke up on Friday morning and decided i would sell my boat,..phoned a friend at 0200 and told him to ask around for a buyer,..surprise surprise at 0400 i had sold the boat and cash in hand,..the quickest sale i ever had,..the boat was well known in the area as its a Sea Going Boat which can take what ever the lake throws at it,..it originated in Lyme Bay,..England.

                                Strange walking this area and not seeing the boat on the far shore but glad i sold it,..its madness navigating on ones own at my age.
