When i finally decided to return home after being abroad for almost 10 years i knew where i was going to live and all i needed was a house in the right location,..meanwhile i rented a cottage on a Victorian Estate,..after a spell there i was offered the use of a Walled In Orchard to use as a Veg Growing Area,..growing many sacks of Potatoes and all types of Organic Vegetables,..i still had the urge to have Hens and Ducks,.. so i was offered the use of what used to be a Paddock,..Hens housed at one end,..Ducks at the opposite end.

Black Roosters,..Brown Hens,..my cottage was where the long window is.

Duck House on the far left.

Hens House at the far end.

No 8.jpg Feeding trays on the ground were the tops of metal drums,..used in the morning and evening,..
hanging from the walls were containers of grain in Pheasant Feeders,..a lid on top then a hole in the bottom with a large protruding spring,..closed enough to allow grain out when pecked.

In contradiction you could say was that i became friendly with some Cub Foxes,..however neither they all three of them nor their parents disturbed my Hens or Ducks.

The Cubs would feed within less than a Metre from my hand.

I often wondered how the Foxes fared out,.one good thing was there was no shooting allowed on the 60 Acres of the Estate,..except for me of course,..i was even given a shotgun by the owner.

The area that used to be the orchard i turned into a big veg garden.

Having moved closer to town i gave up my Hens and Ducks,..sold them of course,..and abandoned the veg area,..it was a nice quiet place to live and it kept be busy,..now i must endure the bells of the Church one door away,..not much to complain about,..seeing my cottage is on ground that used to belong to the Church,..plus i was allowed park my boat trailer at a small cost :)

Mornings are cold with frost on the ground,..Foxy Molly can get the scent of Foxes,..lots of them in the wooded area.

You truly live in a magical place, Philip. I so enjoy coming on here and seeing your photos, thank you.

I lived next to a church in our first house in England in Whitchurch, Buckinghamshire in the early 80s. The access was up the lane past our house and there was no parking so no traffic ... loved it. The old schoolhouse was between us and it was then converted into two homes. Actually, don't remember any foot traffic.

@Victoria ,..very nice festive Pussy Cat Avatar,..thank you for your nice comments and it pleases me to know you are drawn to this Thread and seeing my photos,..thank you again for that.

So you lived next to a Church as well,..not many people can say that,..i have only gone into this Church a few times,..they have a Latin Mass,..nearly all Churches now have the Mass in English or Gaelic,..they used to invite me to dinners in the House keepers Home,..three Priests and two women Church Organizers,..i think they invited me because i was the outsider and could say later,..everyone behaved very well,..however when i announced i was Divorced 40 years ago,..no more invitations lol.

Very early images below,..i was in such a rush to get out and let the dog have a good run that i realized i was too early,..it was 07.00.

A Beehive Cottage,..it has four sloped roofs,..one could purchase one of these back in the late 70's for £1.400 plus half an acre of land.

The water level has dropped at present and where Swans were swimming about they can now paddle,..the fence posts come in handy for those that want a perch.

The Video below is certainly far Beyond The Garden.

                    My Video.
                    Music 'Belajar Harakat',..By Anak Anak.

The Red Rose City Of Petra is one of the seven wonders of the world,..it was unknown to the western world until 1812. Petra (meaning stone) is a historical and archaelogical city in Jordan,..established around the 6th century BC,..it lies on the slope of Mount Hor in a basin among the mountains in a large valley running from the Dead Sea to the Gulf of Aqaba. I spent two years in this region and was at one time based in Jerusalem.

Very dramatic Philip but too arid for me however architecture is fantastic. Thanks for sharing.

My sister visited Jerusalem many years ago as friends lived there, he being a Diplomat. She loved it and Egypt ... anything cultural. Was going to buy in Turkey, then Portugal and chose Florida! :yikes:

Being nosey, what did you do there?

@Victoria ,..i started off with the UNFICYP ( Cyprus ) when i was 18 yrs old,..then next trip it was UNFIL in Lebanon,..third trip was very confusing as far as borders were concerned,..part of UNDOF which means United Nations Disengagement Observer Force,..based on the Golan Heights,..within a few paces one could be in either Arab or Israeli land then there was also the Hashemite Kingdom Of Jordan,..probably the most interesting post i ever had due to its cultural history,..i was hooked on old tombs,..beginning with Lazarus Tomb,..though i belonged to the Military,..Irish UN,.. i was on loan to the British Army.

I agree a VERY arid area.

My friend has an apartment in Nerja, I think above a shop on the road going down to the beach. She also has two townhouses there and lives in one. She sold the villa in Competa when her husband died. She and I worked together in Thame, Oxfordshire in the late 90s. We have never got there but she has been here several times ... says we are greener!

@Victoria ,..very relaxing pictures you captured,..makes one stare and imagine being there with the sun and the orange trees,..thinking of nothing allowing the brain to slow down.

I also have a friend whose Mother has an apartment in Nerja,..i stayed there once with his Mother the Apartment was great,..i never went with her again :sweep:though she did compliment me on being very tidy.

I feel better staying in a Hotel where my time is my own.

More of Nerja,..on coming out of the Apartment and heading for the beach.

Christmas Decorations were up as it was just before Christmas.
