Hi folks. My late father used to go for large onions, always used the same bed. As I remember, he used to grow Kelsae too and won prizes at a local show. Not sure they were as big as 3kg`s though ! Pretty sure he also used Mammoth`s, but the Kelsae`s were always bigger. Good luck fellas. Cheers...freddy.

No one seems to have any updates.

I've changed my avatar to my biggest ever.

    6lb 10 oz.

    That's my target.

    Quick update.

Leaves about 30 inches long and about 8 on each plant.

Come June 21st they should start to bulb up !

Intresting, my old man uesd to grow and show onions, his bigest was 5 1/2 lb.

Youve got a nice tilth on the soil.

Whats the benefit of suporting the leaves ?

As they're in a polytunnel the leaves get a bit drawn and too long to self support,so they just keep them upright.

Just an update on the big onion front.

Just starting to bulb up now,I've got 1 growing that's bigger than the others so I'm pinning my hopes on that one.

Finally made it back onto the site! :)

The Kelsaes' and mammoths along with the other varieties were struggling as we had a prolonged dry spell down here in the South East, now the rain has made an appearance they are bulking up rapidly.

    I've had a bit of a disaster.

About half of mine have started to grow double necks for some reason.(not my fault, just duff stock !!)

The others are doing OK but nothing spectacular due to there not having been any sunshine for a fortnight up here and none forecast for the next week.

Anyway this is the best one at the moment, loads of leave so it should bulk up well.
