I'm no expert but I wouldn't earth them up at all,It'll only give you more chances of them rotting.

I can't see why the eden project would do such a thing,Leeks yes but onions ??

So I'd remove any soil so that the base of the onion is about an inch or so below soil level,or to the level you origionally planted before you earthed up.

Especially as you're from Yorkshire like me and all this liquid sunshine we've had recently will just mean that the onions are submerged in wet soil.

    Nice one Dan.

My pumpkin vines have climbed all over the onions. I keep trying to divert them but it seems that's where they want to go.

Never mind, I prefer pumpkins to onions anyway.

    Nick.

cheeky sod tweaky! I've un-earthed my onions now and they just have fat red stems, hopefully its not too late for them to bulb up! I think at the eden project they have earthed rows up then planted into that to make it look nice!!

You could be right Andy, but they shouldn't do it in my opinion, as someone starting new in the growing business can get the wrong message as in your case.

I too, hope its not to late, but I fear the worst, but best of luck...lets know what happens.:thumb:

heh well they had a small white flower on top so i cut them off, probably too late. Nevermind at least I know what to do next year!! Its all a bit of a learning curve for a young sprog like me! Such as learning not to sow the whole packet of foxgloves at once.... 1500 of them!!

Can't see me winning this year, still early days but not as big as I would have liked at this time.

The long red florences are doing ok though!

    Nethertheless, still edible? :D
