Thankyou for the info Dave. Four of my boxes were newly put up last year so I won't touch them. One is high up on the wall and difficult to get at but I will try to get it down to clean. It is a terracotta one and very popular! :)

That's great news Roders, keep us informed :) I still haven't seen any activity but I hope for some! I bet the blue tits watched you clean their home.

We have so many old large trees around us here in the valley that I don't think we stand much chance with the nesting boxes :( As long as they all have somewhere safe to nest is the main thing though, and there are plenty of birds - whenever I look out my front window I can see them at the feeders or flying around.
The blackbirds particularly liked their mealworms today - happy and busy they were!

The blue tits have been inspecting the birdbox my dad made for me so I am really excited and hoping they will nest in it! :)

Great tits going in and out of my bird box over the past week, and Mrs. Blackbird has been coming into my garden and leaving with huge beaks full of nesting material.

A wren building in the hydrangea beside my window.

Jackdaws dropping into an unused chimney next door. Seen loads go in but none ever come back out.

It appears to have gone very quiet with the blue tits- I am hoping they haven't vacated. I haven't seen any signs of other nesting going on either.
