On my very wet week down in Dorset it was difficult to look for birds as my umbrella got in the way.

Whilst walking through Abbotsbury Garden I came across this wandering through the bushes.

I understand that it is a male Golden Pheasant.

He came out from the bushes and stood under my umbrella for a short while.

I saw another couple of males further on and then one of them started running around in circles in the bushes. It turned out that he was running around a female and displaying. One of the gardeners told me that the males have managed to live wild in the garden for some years but the females had all been taken by foxes last year. They had only just brought in some new females and the males were very excited about it.

The male I saw was running around a female and totally ignoring me standing there watching. It was a bit difficult taking the photos because the male was running frantically trying to attract the female but she was playing hard to get.

I don't know whether I should be putting the next two photos on this thread as they are foreign birds, but they were in an aviary in the same Gardens.

High Shiney shame about the weather. The Golden Pheasants have been there for a few years now, but I didn't know the females have been' foxed', not sure if they have bred.
I don't know why they have Kookaburas there, seem a bit out of place.

    Hi strongy

Apparently the females do lay but quite often get taken whilst on the eggs

Superb Glen, four more for the list!
Not seen a Ring Ouzel yet, they stop around this area for a day or so and then off northwards.

    Fantastic sightings (and pictures) Glen!

This buzzard was being mobbed by carrion crows and a lesser black backed gull above my garden during the week:

    :D No shares, sorry Glen!

Just hope the alarm doesn't go off for any reason over the next few weeks - might find a few house martins that fledge prematurely!!!
