Just for a bit of fun, how about us upping the anti again!

Lets make little challenges for people to try and capture on photo!

With 130 species now listed here, we can assume that most of the common birds have now been sighted - so lets make a challenge for some of the rarer birds - but not so impossible that they are only sighted once every 20 years or ones we have to climb the Cairngorms in mid-winter to see!

My birdy challenges to you are

    1. Grey Partridge
    2. Peregrine Falcon
    3. Ruddy Duck

No prizes but lots of coudos! ;)

thanks for all the work you've put in cookie, its a great photo bird book you've put together. I like the challenge you've set, i'm always up for a challenge!!! in fact, very nearly met 1 of the 'targets', its a red legged rather than a grey partridge.

What a beauty Glen! Cripes - how do you get these fab close ups??? Incredible!

    A VERY pretty bird :)

Thanks for suggesting indexing the list - I never knew this would get so popular and we would get so many different species! It certainly needed bringing into order!

I have occasionally seen Peregrine Falcons in the Lake District (saw one last September) but there is not a chance I could photograph them.:(

We watched it do an almost vertical dive at such a speed that we were sure it was going to make a crater in the field. I've never seen a bird move so fast . It grabbed something and in the process nearly gave a heart attack to a nearby sheep which jumped into the air and took off at high speed :D

I've only seen peregrines from a great distance Shiney, when I took a boat trip out of Dartmouth around the South Devon coastline. They were nesting in the sea cliffs, but sadly I didn't have my nifty camera or telephoto lens then....:( They are beautiful birds to watch - I envy your having witnessed a hunting dive!

    :)

I'm off on my travels again next weekend, a fortnight in kent/sussex. I've just found out that there are peregrines nesting in Brighton city centre and also several pairs around canterbury. Fingers crossed!!!

well I got peregrines!! there are 3 on this photo, the light was horrible and they are a fair distance from the coast, resting on the burnt out pier at Brighton.

this is 1 of the young I think, A pair nested on 1 of the tower blocks and raised 3 chicks. All were still around when we were there.

A little closer, using a bit of digital zoom, hence the poor quality

I don't think we have any baby peacocks here. So here are some :thumb: :D

This landed on my lawn in front of the kitchen window this morning but didn't stop to pose properly. I think it is some sort of bird of prey
